Tater Tots to impersonate nachos

A new pub is opening across from Piedmont Park. This just in:

Partners Adam Gajadharsingh, Gabriel Greenberg and David Duley have joined forces to transform the former Prince of Wales space on Piedmont Avenue in Midtown into The Nook, on Piedmont Park.  It will open to the public at 5 p.m. March 20, the first day of spring and serve lunch, brunch, dinner and drinks.

The Nook is a food-driven establishment with a menu featuring upscale tavern fare.  Appetizers include shrimp and andouille toast; “brontosaurus bones” (giant grilled beef ribs); smoked wings with a homemade cola bbq sauce; and scallops napoleon with seared scallops, roasted corn guacamole and fried onions.

Salads include a blackened mahi salad, grilled hanger steak salad and house made chicken salad.  The sandwich selection includes an Irish dip with Guinness braised brisket, Irish Swiss cheese, fried onions and Guinness pan jus; house smoked pork and blue cheese slaw; a grilled chicken wrap with spinach and goat cheese; and a veggie muffaletta with grilled eggplant, zucchini, onions, squash, olive tapenade and garlic aioli.

The list of entrées features Hoisin tot crusted mahi, rotisserie chicken, jambalaya, peanut crusted scallops and steak frites.  The Nook’s menu also contains an extensive selection of “Totchos” (tater tots smothered in goodness), including such items as Redneck Totchos (pulled pork, bbq sauce and cheese), Nacho Totchos (grilled chicken, cheese, lettuce, onions, sour cream and pico de gallo), and Philly Totchos (peppers, onions, mushrooms, steak and cheese).

The weekend brunch menu includes  bananas foster French toast; fried chicken and jalapeno corn waffles; a spicy hash with andouille sausage, crushed tots, peppers, onions and eggs; and old standbys like waffles, omelets and a two egg breakfast.  Desserts will include the restaurant’s homemade ice creams with unique flavors such as sweet tea ice cream.  Menu items range in price from $5.99 to $17.

    I am glad there will be another restaurant offering so close to the park. The only thing I hope is that the taste delivers.

    i hope anyone opening a restaurant in this economy does well. if you never opened a restaurant before, you just dont understand how difficult it is. i applaud there efforts.

    new restaurant means new work for the unemployed. thats a good thing.

    Thanks for the info on Lottafrutta, foodieman. We go there most every Saturday for those incredible breakfast sandwiches — good to know their re-opening.

    Re: The Nook, I can’t say that the tot-heavy menu sounds exciting, but that’s a excellent location and I’ll definitely give them a try.

    And it’s good that the area will have another weekend brunch spot with Nook. I feel so sorry for all those folks standing in line outside the Flying Biscuit every weekend morning waiting for a table.

    I like the location. It’s a very good view of the park from the patio. Although parking in the vicinity has always been problematic in the evenings.

    Kali, you looked at that article and only remembered the Totchos and you’re predicting they fail?!? You must have read a totally different article or I’m guessing you’re a glass half empty kind of gal?? While I love me some tots…I noticed that the restaurant is going to be food driven – which to me means yummy, the other items look awesome, it’s right on the park, and the place that used to be there was packed all of the time – and their food, well, not so great. Anyway, I work three blocks away, I think it will be great and I can’t wait to grab a pint! Positive thoughts for anyone trying a new biz right now!! Go Nook!!

    I live around the corner and went by about a week ago and the owners are unbelievably friendly. They gave me a tour of the building and talked a lot about their concept. They just don’t want to be The Prince of Whales. Being a clean place and having good food is what they say they are about.

    Why would they have a bunch of wierd food? People will go there to dirnk beer and bar food. The park will be their draw. I’m afraid they won’t last 6 months.

    My huband and I recently moved to 14th. We had been anxiously awaiting the Nook to open. They were packed the first night. The hostess, waitstaff and managers where very friendly. The food was great..had the fried twinkies in chocolate sauce..yum. We’ll be back!
