Memo to Michelle: Use chemicals in your garden!
March 29th, 2009 by Cliff Bostock in Food & Life, NewsThis is unbelievable. The Obamas are planting an organic garden and some Big Ag folks are annoyed that they aren’t showing appropriate appreciation for the value of conventional farming practices (i.e. use of chemicals).
This was attached to copies of a lengthy letter mailed to Michelle Obama and circulated on the Internet:
Did you hear the news? The White House is planning to have an “organic” garden on the grounds to provide fresh fruits and vegetables for the Obama’s and their guests. While a garden is a great idea, the thought of it being organic made Janet Braun, CropLife Ambassador Coordinator and I [Bonnie McCarvel] shudder. As a result, we sent a letter encouraging them to consider using crop protection products and to recognize the importance of agriculture to the entire U.S. economy….

Thanks for the link. I actually submitted the original to reddit, and it is currently #1 under Food, and #10 overall.
I could understand a letter like this if they publicly declared they were switching from conventional to org, but isn’t this like someone starting a beverage company that doesn’t use high fructose corn syrup and being lobbied by the Corn Refiners Association?

Actually there is pending legislation that will end organic farming, side-street vegetable/fruit vendoring, and will severely restrict what can be grown in home gardens (if we’re able to plant at all after these new bills are passed).
What most people aren’t aware of is that the US government has basically been “hijacked” and is having its currrent laws based on “for-the-people” “by-the-people” changed. Welcome to Marxist Social Communism. Look up the info about goverment’s “end” to wholesome organic farming on the internet-it’s all over the place.
And look up the new anti-hate bills making its way through congress–just make sure you don’t EVER deny that the holocaust happened (I believe it did by-the-way)–new laws will that denial a CRIME punishable by mandatory imprisonment and fines…

I also forgot to mention that the same people who sent the letter work for the same anti-natural-farming interests in our new Washington government who, according to new PROPOSED anti-organic-farming laws: have deemed earthworms as…”parasites that must be eradicated” and yes, I’m quoting them exactly!

Thanks for that (over)dose of hyperbolic, right-wing, fear- nad rumor-mongering. I notice you couldn’t be bothered to provide any links to any of this supposed legislation though. How does someone of your ilk find their way to a food blog on a hippie, commie-pinko, left-leaning, alternative paper like CL anyway?
