LOOKING FOR A DONOR: Tierra's Dan Krinsky
I’m back to pizza this week, but first, I want to cite some important news in Atlanta’s culinary community. Dan Krinksy, co-chef and owner of Tierra with his wife, Ticha, is in need of a kidney donor.
Krinsky was diagnosed with polycistic kidney disease, a genetic disorder, about six years ago. He has been seeking a donor for two years and although he’s had seven offers, none of them turned out to be a match. He is now undergoing dialysis three times a week.
His blood type is O, the most common, so the competition for a donor kidney, including a cadaver organ, is intense. He prefers a living donor because, he says, cadaver kidneys are not as reliable over the long term. Recent research has concluded that donating a kidney does not affect health or life expectancy.
All donor costs will be paid by Krinksy’s insurance company. Recovery from the laparoscopic surgery is usually about two weeks.

I first tried Cameli’s about a month ago, marveled at the size of the Monster slice (it’s on its own freakin’ tray!) and gobbled it up. It was really really good and felt bad that I hadn’t eaten there before.
I have never cared for Savage nor Everybody’s (which I always found to be overpriced). I like Grant Central pretty well and only have had pizza at Osteria, but not its sister restaurant. I always opted for Sotto Sotto over Fritti but have friends who love it. And I happen to think Baraonda is pretty decent.
That IS a lot of pizza meals, Cliff. And that sure as heck musta been a lot of cardio.

I am a bit of a New York style purists when it comes to pizza. I just want a greasy slice of cheese. I will get toppings when i go to fancier places but just cheese for me at a run of the mill pizza joint. That said, i really like Grant Central but it is the strangest pizza joint in town. I get a pie from there every Friday night and every Friday it taste completley different. It has always been good but always slightly different than the time before. (their slices suck though).
OTP tip:
I think the best pizza in Georgia is actually in Alpharetta at Momma’s Pizza on Old Milton Pkway. The place was in the old Roswell Mall in the 80’s and the same grumpy old man runs it. I have seen the Rosa’s guys in there before so i guess the pizza guys stick together. That reminds me, No Rosa’s Cliff?

I think that just getting a slice of plain ol’ cheese is the true test of whether or not pizza places get it right because if they can screw up just a slice of cheese, then no matter how fancy or abundant the toppings, it won’t matter.
My husband and I spent a lot of time in early March downtown (marriage license/car stuff/criminal record stuff) and ended up eating lunch in the area a few times. Unfortunately, Rosa’s always lost out of the Vietnamese place across the street.

If you get out of ATL, but still ITP, Cliff, head to Corner Pizza on Ashford Dunwoody in Brookhaven. De-lish! And definitely make sure to hit Shorty’s, there’s a gym next door to get your cardio in as well.

Mmmm, I can see five or six more pizzas in my immediate future.

As long as there’s enough cardio to compensate, old bean.
