Domino’s Pizza and Burger King outrage everyone

April 18th, 2009 by Cliff Bostock in Food & Life, News, Restaurants

UPDATED BELOW (04/22/09)

I’m sick as a dog with either the worst cold I’ve had in years or the flu, following nearly two weeks of horrible allergies. So I’m barely eating. I just browse the Internet between naps.

This week’s Viral Video Chart is of course topped by Susan Boyle’s performance on Britain’s Got Talent. But this video from some workers at Domino’s also made the top 20 list:

Police have charged the two Conover, N.C., employees with distributing prohibited foods. Domino’s claims it was all a prank and the food was never delivered. Sure, sure.

Fox News has the story covered in detail, and provides links to a couple more videos.

UPDATE: The YouTube video has been banned but you can still see the two Domino’s employees in action here.

This video from Burger King, a strange commercial, also went viral during the last week:

The Texican’s marketing in Spain caused the Mexican ambassador to write an outraged letter to Burger King, which has in turned killed the ad and other marketing materials. It’s all about inappropriate display of the Mexican flag. Yahoo has the story.

Another recent Burger King vid has the morality police up in arms too. This time the complaint is about (the formerly gay) SpongeBob SquarePants’ eroticizing of the booty:

I hope you feel better Mr. Bostock

  2. cliff bostock Says:

    Thanks, FM…Where’ve u eaten lately?

  3. Rds Says:

Slate.com has a good explainer this week on state to state food laws in relation to this

  4. foodieman Says:

been trying to support restaurants on edgewood. in this past week ive been to shauns, noni, and miso.

you should check out miso again, they have changed their menu a lot since you last reviewed them. they have yakitori now. they also have this amazing kakuni bun – bershire pork belly in a steamed white bun, wow. similar to david chang’s momofuku. hmm but different.

shauns is always great, but the sunday pasta night is okay. $12 but its not really anything I couldn’t do at home. the salad, pasta, and desert are really simple. Awesome brunch service

Noni has been great for drinks. Forget Porter, this place is really chill.

    Hope bureau comes back stronger

  5. cliff bostock Says:

Bill Addison twittered quite negatively about Miso a few days ago, FM, but I will give the yakitori a try. I still miss Yakitori Den Chan.

And Jennifer Zyman twittered negatively about Noni’s meatballs, which surprised me.

  6. foodieman Says:

i guess you just gotta try it for yourself. i had a good time.

  7. Besha Rodell Says:

I ate at Miso two weeks ago, hoping for an improvement, and was disappointed. I’m not going back until the sake is flowin’.

  8. foodieman Says:

Mr. Bostock you should try honey and tea that always work for me with a heavy cold.

  9. Jennifer Zyman Says:

My recent experience at Noni’s was a huge letdown. The meatballs were gray and raw in the center. The sauce was just plain odd–it tasted like they’d added vinegar or something.

Don’t even get me started on Miso…

  10. foodieman Says:

    lets not get startd.

trying help these restaurants here, not make it any more worse for them.

if nothing nice to say don’t say it at all.

with all being said, with time i hope all these restaurants get better. that includes you feeling better Mr. Bostock

  11. Ronnie Says:

Foodieman, I find your injunction not to say anything if you can’t say something nice a bit disingenuous, particularly on a food blog. I’d like to see these restaurants succeed, but I’d like them to succeed because they deliver quality food and service, not because I want the area to gentrify. A food critic’s job is to give an honest appraisal of a restaurant, and I trust that’s what Jen and Besha were doing. To keep mum about a negative experience would be dishonest. I’ve not yet been to Miso or Noni’s, but I plan to try both since I live in the area, and knowing the experiences of people whose palates are smarter than mine will keep my expectations in the reasonable range.

  12. foodieman Says:

    calm down ronnie

  13. JSF3000 Says:

Ronnie’s got a point foodieman. You said nothing about the food at these restaurants, only that you had a “good time”. Omnivore, which I take to mean “all things food” or “I eat everything”, has nothing to do with how good of a time you had.

“I guess you just have to try it for yourself”? These people are professional food critics, of course they’re going to try it for themselves, and respect the opinions of their colleagues and not of some anonymous blogger.

Your comment that you’re “trying help these restaurants here, not make it any more worse for them” sounds like an AIG bailout of these restaurants. If they’re not good, sub-par, mediocre, the people should be told this from their local food critics and not someone who has a bias agenda and wants his neighborhood restaurants to thrive.

  14. Truth Says:

Foodieman trying to censor peoples opinions on a food blog? (not to mention sucking up to CB constantly)

Ya lets just put on our rose colored glasses and love every place in Atlanta so that they stay in business………

    We want the truth.

  15. edgewood adam Says:

I am not a paid or respected food critic but i think that Noni’s is top notch. I love the meatball sandwich. It taste like a meatball sandwich with sauce on it. I dont know what was strange about it. That place has an awesome bar. The best thing on the menu though is the house made tagliatelli (sp?).

  16. Mehbe Says:

I think foodieman works at one of those restos

    grain of salt

  17. foodieman Says:

Mehbe, don’t come on this post and try to attack me

  18. foodieman Says:

you guys listen to every movie critic? same with the food. go see it for yourself.

  19. foodieman Says:

this topic is getting bigger than Varasanos. =)

  20. ATLien Says:

That’s because you (foodieman) have 9 of the 19 posts.

Adam, thank you for your take, but with a name like edgewood adam, you may live in the area and may be a little biased.

But then again, maybe not. who knows?

  21. foodieman Says:

    your a sucker for counting

  22. edgewood adam Says:

I do live in the area. Sort of. I guess that area would be called Old Fourth Ward. But that certainly does not affect my judgement. I live very close to a Supreme Fish Delight but i do not go on blogs to defend it.

  23. edgewood adam Says:

And if anything me living in the neighborhood would actually make me less likely to defend it because why would i want a shitty place to eat in my area. Everyone i have brought to Noni’s has loved it. Not just for the food but because it is really neat looking (thesaurus for christmas please) inside.
    Great vibe.

  24. No longer mehbe but most definitely Says:

I don’t see any personal attack.

I just outed your likely personal self interest; that is, you work for a restaurant that you defend vehemently by showering exaggerated praise and leveling unjustified personal attacks against those who say they don’t like the food.

  25. jimmy Says:

the domino’s video no longer works

  26. wesleywhatwhat Says:

food nerds are the most annoing nerds.

  27. wesleywhatwhat Says:

    and they’re annoying too!
