Bacon flavored vodka on the way
May 12th, 2009 by Taylor Eason in Drink, Food & Life
It sounds like bottled baked potato with bacon topping. It kinda skeezes me out, yet intrigues. But, given the growing fascination with all things pork and cured, we should have expected it: A potato-based vodka with a “savory bacon flavor” has been invented in Seattle.
Created by Black Rock Spirits after two years of testing, Bakon Vodka celebrates the renaissance of our favorite salty slab. With no tongue-in-cheek, they are “bringing home the bacon.”
The website says: “Our vodka is column-distilled using a single heating process that doesn’t ‘bruise’ the alcohol like the multiple heating cycles needed to make a typical pot-still vodka. No tinge or burn on the tongue, no obnoxious smoky or chemical flavors, just a clean refreshing potato vodka with delicious savory bacon flavor.”
The website has recipes like Bakon Chocolate Martini and Bakon Vodka Marinated Steaks which sound pretty tasty. But we’ll have to wait for it to arrive in our parts: It’s only available in the Pacific Northwest for now but NY Magazine says it’s heading east.

Oh, swell. Another stupid internet meme runs amok. Maybe they can get Chuck Norris to be their pitchman.

Why not? Leon’s has a cocktail with bacon-infused bourbon and maple syrup.

I know a ton of foodies, myself included, who’d buy that. Bring it on!

I had the bacon infused bourbon cocktail at Leon’s this weekend – it was awful. They did not use a great bourbon (4 Roses) and the infusion tasted like overbearing fake smoke. I love bourbon, bacon and maple syrup so I was excited about this drink – but it was a failure; couldn’t even taste a hint of maple.

I had the bacon-bourbon cocktail as well. I think it has potential, but the execution was just ok. It was very sweet, I actually think I may have gotten too much maple. Definitely smokey. There was a huge piece of lemon zest in there that brightened it up a bit too much.

@ehtrevor – shoot it sounds like if we had mixed your drink and mine they might have been one drinkable cocktail!

@Matt – I’d get it again, and maybe tell them to go easy on the zest.
When I get my hands on some Bakon, I’m going to make bloody marys with it.
