Three signs of the times
May 23rd, 2009 by Cliff Bostock in News, Restaurants
First sign of the times: Cheap food. I can’t think of a better bargain in Midtown than a meal at Eats on Ponce de Leon Avenue. Here’s half a chicken roasted with jerk seasonings, an ear of fresh corn, a bowl of lima beans and some collards — for just under $10. And it all tastes good
Second sign of the times: This warning is affixed to the door of Eats.
Third sign of the times: Ansley Mall is doomed to eventual redevelopment but the Piccadilly Cafeteria there is closing this week or next, I’m told. I wonder where the area’s church groups will go for dinner now. The parade of hats and suits in colors unknown to nature has long been a favorite Sunday spectacle there.

I am Quoting “The parade of hats and suits in colors unknown to nature has long been a favorite Sunday spectacle there.” I find this a bit Racist? Are you referring to the African American Patrons? I’m shocked that creative loafing would publish this!

Got the confirmation… Ansley Piccadilly. RIP May 24, 2009.

For anyone entertaining the idea of redeveloping Ansley Mall . . . beware. It sits on a landfill. Many over the years have inquired about redeveloping it but have never figured out to avoid spending the ungodly amounts of money it would take to do this . . . and take responsibility for the environmental repercussions. Good luck though . . . that place is an eye sore.

As an African American (aka black) guy, I too am entertained by “The parade of hats and suits in colors unknown to nature”. Let’s not pretend that it’s a racist observation. Seriously! Regardless of ethnicity, where do you get green, purple and orange double-double breasted suits?

No one should ever wear a green, purple, or pink suit. People need to realize that “pimping attire” is no longer acceptable in 2009.
