OPA!: A selection of dishes at Mykonos Taverna

It’s not often that a flock of 20 or so geese greets you outside an Atlanta restaurant, but that was our experience in the parking lot of Mykonos Taverna (2901 Clairmont Road, 404-638-6770) last week.

The geese seemed completely unfazed by our presence. In fact, one quickly waddled toward the car, hoping for a taste of spanakopita. My guess is that they actually live at the office park adjoining Sam’s Club, behind which Mykonos is located.

This restaurant has been opened by the same people who operate Mykonos Grill on Cobb Parkway. As the hostess showed us to a table inside the garishly neon-lit restaurant, she issued an apology. “Have you been waiting months for us to open like everyone else?” she asked. “I apologize.”

Well, frankly, no. I haven’t been waiting. The truth is that of all the world’s cuisines, Greek food is my least favorite. Oh, I love Kyma, because it’s all about whole wood-grilled fish. But I have no taste for the super-garlicky, often excessively oily casserole dishes. Once upon a time, Evelyn’s Café made some of these palatable to me, but that restaurant closed years ago.

My god, i would rather you say something horrible about my family than besmirch the good name of Nick and his wonderful gyros. Why i do find them to be a bit overwhelming at times, they are with out a doubt the best in the city. I would suggest going on a saturday afternoon when everything is fresh and Nick is less grouchy. I hate to admit this but i too and charmed by the asshole sometimes and sweet charming persona other times that is Nick. Im like a battered woman.

And they are fresh on Saturday afternoon only and Nick is civil because?

  3. Edgewood adam Says:

Because it is not busy and they are not trying to close early. The freshness is there because everything else is prepared in the morning. I personaly kind of like nick’s gruffness. I love when I have seen him yell at people for being stupid. “no you can not have all center cut pieces of gyro or no we don’t have pizza!”

In my 7th month of pregnancy, I realize I’m wheeling into Nick’s without even consulting myself first. I enjoy looking at the posters of Greece and listening to his outbursts:
    (phone rings)
“Hello? No! It’s too hot to bake!” (slams down receiver.)

I live near the Cobb Mykonos — its nice to have a reliable Greek diner in the area. I don’t think the Cobb one has squid or octopus, though (because I surely would’ve tried it).

If you don’t like greek food, and if you are in a bad food, please don’t review a restaurant. If you only like fish, get someone else to review it- I have no sense from your review as to the food. It is like a vegetarian reviewing a steak house. You should not be allowed to review restauarnts again- you were biased before going in. This review was completely useless and you should never be allowed to review again. I hope you weren’t paid for this rubbish.
