Omnivore - Food news: pizza, pizza, Eli, and Joia’s Enigma

The best pizza in the country, the best pizza in NYC, and an interview with Eli.

Village Voice’s food blog, Fork in the Road, interviews Eli Kirshtein.

Ed Levine and Adam Kuban name Varasano’s one of the 8 best pizzerias in America, in an article for Every Day with Rachael Ray.

Speaking of pizza, the New York TimesSam Sifton has anointed the best pizza in New York City. I do wonder about the star rating - 1 star for the best pizza in the best pizza city (supposedly) in the country? I know stars in the Times are like a million bucks - even one is pretty sweet - but for the BEST pizza in the city? Is pizza that lowly that even the best doesn’t deserve two stars? Most days I’d rather have the best pizza than the best French food. After looking around the web today I saw that Eater had the same question. (Did I mention recently that as a restaurant critic and a reader of restaurant reviews I HATE star ratings?)

Foodie Buddha is reporting that Joia has changed its name to Enigma, and that the rest of the story is, well, an enigma.
