Celebrate “The Running of the Bulls” at Cuerno

Monday, June 30th, 2008

bulls.jpgIn the Spanish city of Pamplona, natives and tourists come together for one week to celebrate the famous “Running of the Bulls.” You’ve probably seen pictures or updates on the news about multitudes of people running wildly down the streets being chased by large and angry-looking horned animals.

From July 7-14, Cuerno will bring this tradition to Atlanta, except without the fear of being gored or trampled by a bull. Specials include $5 sangria ($20 for a pitcher), and $4 pinxtos (basque tapas). The festival wrap up party on Mon., July 14 will offer complimentary tapas and live flamenco performances.

Cuerno is located at 905 Juniper Street and is open for dinner Monday through Thursday from 5:30-12 p.m., and Friday and Saturday until 1 a.m. To make reservations, call 678.904.4584.

Red wine might actually slow aging

Friday, June 6th, 2008

With all the back-and-forth discussion of the health benefits of red wine, it’s hard to know whether you can be self righteous about your wine consumption or not. But here’s some new research that furthers the wine-for-health argument we love so much.

According to an article in the New York Times, red wine may work its magic on the human lifespan to a greater degree than thought before.

The article explains:

The study is based on dosing mice with resveratrol, a chemical found in some red wines. Some scientists are already taking resveratrol in capsule form, but others believe it is far too early to take the drug, especially using wine as its source, until there is better data on its safety and effectiveness.

Dr. David Sinclair of the Harvard Medical School, a co-founder of the the drug development company, Sirtris, said this new research could change medicine. But another researcher, Dr. Matthew Kaeberlein of the University of Washington in Seattle, said the results involving mice may not translate to similar results in humans.

STATS takes Braves fans out to the ball game with food and drinks

Friday, May 30th, 2008

turner-field-posters.jpg

When Braves fans head to the game, a few things must be considered. Parking is a prime issue, as is food before the game — even though the not-so-cheap hot dogs and crunchy packs of peanuts are always tempting when surrounded by fellow fans munching as they scream for their team. And of course, there’s the question of who’s gonna be the designated driver.

STATS hopes to be your game day problem solver. Its FoodPlay Pass is cheap (only $50 for the entire package), and includes complimentary pre-game food at STATS, beverages aboard the shuttle and one game ticket on the Golden Moon Pavilion level.

The shuttle leaves one hour prior to the start of the game. Sign up with the hostess or call 404.885.1472.
