Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Grab your washboard and head out to Cabbagetown Park on Nov. 8th for chili bowls and mountain bluegrass from 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.

The Chomp & Stomp features local bands such as Spanky and the Love Handles, Pea Ridge Ramblers, the Mussel White Family, and Peachtree Station, and with the endless flow of chili and beer, there won’t be an empty belly in the park.

Dine-out for Cabbagetown tornado victims

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

On April 14, approximately one month after a tornado ripped through downtown and ravaged most of Cabbagetown, a dine-out has been planned to benefit those affected in the Atlanta neighborhood. The event was planned by Rich Chey, owner of HomeGrown Restaurant Concepts and the recently opened Stella Neighborhood Trattoria in Grant Park. Twelve local restaurants will donate 15 percent of the proceeds earned from 5 p.m. to close (some restaurants will also donate lunch proceeds) to Cabbagetown Initiative’s disaster relief fund, which provides assistance to those who suffered from tornado damage.

It is a worthy cause and another reason not to cook on a Monday night.

Participating restaurants include:

Stella Neighborhood Trattoria, Six Feet Under, Redfish, Dakota Blue, Agave, Grant Central Pizza, The Standard, 97 Estoria, Flatiron, The Depot, Ria’s Bluebird and Vickery’s in Glenwood Park. For more information on the dine-out and directions to participating locations, visit www.AtlantaTornadoRelief.com.

Village Pizza deal falls through

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

We reported recently about the closing of Village Pizza in Cabbagetown. It was expected that the owner of Ria’s Bluebird would take over the space for a new venue. Sources tell me the deal fell through but that the owner of Carroll Street Cafe (and Apres Diem), Andy Alibaksh, has bought the building.

All the chili you can eat in Cabbagetown

Friday, October 26th, 2007

This just in:

The 5th annual Chomp & Stomp Chili Cook-Off and Bluegrass Festival will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3, in Cabbagetown Park at the corner of Tye Street and Kirkwood Avenue. We’ll have more than 50 different individual teams and restaurants vying to be proclaimed the best chili cooks in their respective categories.

Cost to the public is $5 for all-you-can-eat chili. The music stage will feature such acts as Slim Chance and the Convicts, National Grain, The Bouldercrest Singing Group and many more. There will be an artists market and vendors serving food for those who choose not to partake of the chili. Sweetwater beer will be on tap.

The festival will officially open at noon when the chili serving begins. The festival officially ends at 6 p.m. but the music won’t end until 8 or 9 p.m.

The Romp & Stomp 5k is entering its second year and will start that morning at 8 a.m. The route runs through Cabbagetown and Reynoldstown. The entry fee is $20 and the price includes a commemorative t-shirt.
