Cliff’s Top 10 Favorite Restaurants Countdown: Number 5

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

food_feature-23459Cóm is my favorite Vietnamese restaurant. While there are a couple of fancier spots in town, Cóm is inexpensive, informal and mainly quite healthy. Don’t go without trying the house salad, made with green mango, green papaya, Fuji apples, fried onions, roasted peanuts, mint, basil and cilantro. You add the grilled seafood, meat or tofu of your choice.

Favorite dish: My default entrée is usually a bun (rice vermicelli) bowl with la lot leaves stuffed with lamb. 4005-E Buford Hwy. 404-320-0405. www.comgrill.com.

We will be counting down Cliff’s Top 10 Favorites every day between now and Oct. 21, the day our Food Issue 2009 launches. Check back tomorrow for Number 4.

10 things to eat in Atlanta before you die (or leave)

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Our frequent commenter Kali asked us a few weeks back to come up with a list for her of 10 things she should eat in Atlanta before she deserts us for the Great North. She wrote:

Besha and Cliff,

I am sure I have hinted, if not outright said (and I know I have!), that I am leaving my beloved Atlanta for Canadian climes in 8 weeks now. Please give me a list of 10 tastes I should have before I go. Atlanta is a city of foods, cuisines, and delicacies I am glad to know are out there. It makes me proud. My only caveat is this: I don’t eat beef. It’s something weird with me I am sure. Pork is fine, lamb is so-so, fish is ace, and there you go. But please: I would like recommendations.

So here we go – Cliff and I came up with five each. Cliff’s list first: (more…)

Anyone got a memory?

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

An inquiry from a reader:

Do you remember the name of the Vietnamese place on Piedmont near Rock Springs?  Must have been 15 years ago?  What place in town now do you think has the best Vietnamese?

Does anyone remember the name of the restaurant? Frankly, I don’t even remember one there. I do remember one at the corner of Cheshire Bridge and Lenox Road that I loved. I can’t recall its name either.

The best Vietnamese is at Com, Nam and Chateau de Saigon.
