The Shed comes to Glenwood Park

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Glenwood Park, the New Urbanist development between North Ormewood and Grant Park, held an Earth Day celebration this past weekend. The event featured live music and food samples from some Atlanta restaurants that use local and sustainable produce. While wandering around, I saw that the Shed, a new restaurant on Bill Kennedy Way (the connector between Glenwood, I-20 and Memorial) had its doors open. I stopped in and grabbed a menu.

The restaurant belongs to Cindy Shera, who most recently has been the GM at Twist. In fact she worked with Twist since its opening. Daniel Atwood will be helming the kitchen and is also an alum of Here To Serve restaurants; he was the chef at Prime.

The menu looks very straightforward, featuring American bistro fare. There will be a raw bar, as well as dishes such as chopped salad, “steak frite”, braised short ribs, and various sandwiches. You can check out their Open Table profile here.

The official opening date is next week.

The Depot

Monday, January 28th, 2008

JSF asks: “Any news on the ‘Depot’ at Memorial Drive at the Glenwood connector? It looks almost open and I know nothing about it. Got any insider info?”

The Depot is owned by the same folks who own Vickery’s, Fontaine’s and Highland Tap. The concept there will be similar to their other restaurants — an American bar and grill. They are hoping to be open sometime in February.

It is a very cool building (the old train depot near Glenwood Park) that has screamed to have a restaurant in it for years. We’ll keep you posted.

Restaurant coming to historic depot

Friday, June 15th, 2007

If you’re one of the multitudes who’ve driven past the vacant railroad depot on Memorial Drive across from the Glenwood Connector and thought, “That’d be a great place for a restaurant,” you’re on your way to getting your wish.

After nearly a year of waiting for utility upgrades and miscellaneous permits, the Atlanta-based NNNW restaurant group — owner of the nearby Vickery’s in Glenwood Park, as well as Highland Tap and the soon-to-close Steamhouse Lounge — plans to open another of its trademark casual, moderately priced bar and grills.

The old Atlanta and West Point Railroad freight depot, built about a century ago on the edge of Reynoldstown, has sat empty for years, even as residential development rose up on both sides.

An NNNW spokeswoman says that although the menu is still being fine-tuned, the restaurant will feature an oyster bar and a double-sided bar to serve both inside and patio customers. One side of the shotgun building will be largely opened up to allow inside diners a view of the expansive, partly covered patio, which will have a large fountain.

The interior will have a wood-burning stove and period details to give the place an “Old World bar feel,” the spokeswoman adds. The restaurant, which has no name yet, will likely have about a dozen beers on tap.

The target opening date is somewhere around Sept. 1.
