Atlanta food events this week

Here are some events coming up for Halloween and through next week:

Treat Before You Trick at the Melting Pot, Oct. 31. For Halloween, the Melting Pot’s Midtown, Duluth, Kennesaw and Roswell locations will offer a special menu price starting at 1 p.m. You can eat a three-course meal that includes cheese, salad and an entree for $25, which, compared to their normal menu pricing, is quite a deal. If you come dressed in costume you’ll receive a chocolate course for $5 per person. 404-389-0099.

RA Sushi’s Boo Bash 2009, Oct. 31. Starting at 7 p.m. RA Sushi is celebrating Halloween with food and drink specials for the night. The “Boo Bites” specials, the $6 Creepy Cali Roll, $7 Voodoo Roll and $7 Spider Roll, can be paired with some $7 “Potent Potions,” which include Vampire’s Kiss, Bloody Brain and Skullini. DJ Scott will entertain guests with a mix of horror movie theme songs and top 40s hits. There is no cover charge and the kitchen will remain open until 1 a.m. 1080 Peachtree St. 404-267-0114.

Rathbun brothers appear on “The Early Show” and throw dual birthday bash

Chefs Kent and Kevin Rathbun show their adorable faces on the CBS morning talk show where former opponent, Chef Bobby Flay, regularly corresponds with short segments on food issues.

The Iron Chef champions will appear on “The Early Show” tomorrow morning (Tuesday, March 25), preparing “Tomahawk Chop” and other steak dishes for Julie Chen and the rest of “The Early Show” gang.

The show begins at 7 a.m.

Then, on May 4th, Kevin Rathbun will celebrate Rathbuns’ 4th anniversary and Kevin Rathbun Steak’s first anniversary.kevinrathbunsteakfinallogosmall.jpg

The “Barbecue and Blues” afternoon party will include a band, Rathbun’s favorite barbecue dishes and beer and wine.

The celebration will be from 3-7 p.m. at Rathbun’s. The cost is $50 per person. Reservations are limited, so call soon.

On Feb. 24, at 10 p.m, Chef Kevin Rathbun (pictured) and his brother, Chef Kent Rathbun, will make their debut on Iron Chef. The two chef siblings will be paired together to battle an unannounced Iron Chef.

The Rathbun brothers will have one hour to prepare five different dishes with the “secret ingredient” that the Food Network introduces to the chefs. Trey Wilcox, who is the chef de cuisine of Abacus, will assist the brotherly duo.

“We will be ready for anything that they hand to us with the hopes of beating the Iron Chef,” says Kevin Rathbun, owner of Rathbun’s, Krog Bar and Kevin Rathbun Steak in Atlanta. Kent Rathbun is the owner of Abacus and Jaspers, in Dallas, Tex.

On September 6th, Chef Kevin Rathbun along with his brother, Chef Kent Rathbun will travel to New York and battle against the “Unknown” in the Food Network’s Iron Chef competition. The two chef siblings will be paired together to battle against two “Secret Chefs” that have yet to be announced. In the televised competition (no known televised date yet), the chefs will have one hour to prepare five different dishes with the “secret ingredient” that the Food Network will present to the chefs. Kevin Rathbun says, “My brother and I will be ready for any curve ball that will be thrown at us and we will be ready to see who will reign the Iron Chef.”

Rathbun is not the first Atlanta chef to do battle in Kitchen Stadium. Both Richard Blais of Element and Linton Hopkins of Restaurant Eugene have appeared on “Iron Chef” in recent years.
