The end of Trois as we know it

Friday, June 12th, 2009

I heard a rumor this morning that Trois, Concentrics’ glittering French restaurant in Midtown, will be closing within the week.  Calls to the restaurant and the restaurant’s PR rep garnered a lot of “no comment”s (although PR rep Jill Caramella at the Reynolds Group promised more information by the end of the day). But we were able to find three separate sources who told us, off the record, that the downstairs bar will stay open, probably serving food, while the upstairs dining room is “re-branded”. We’re told that concept, price point and decor will all be changed. It will no longer be Trois.

We’ll keep you posted as the official word comes down.

(Thanks to intern Robyn Baitcher for her intrepid reporting, which contributed to this post)

The latest casualty

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Allegro, the Italian restaurant that featured the cooking of Chef Jose Rego, has closed. Bummer.

Taurus: Lost the fight

Monday, January 5th, 2009

<spaTaurus lost the fight on Dec. 31. If you call the restaurant, you will hear a message informing patrons that they have “Closed for business.”

Chef and owner Gary Mennie took the “bull by the horns,” when he opened this restaurant (his first baby). The name taken from his zodiac sign also held meaning to the food. Read Bill Addison’s review here.

Never heard of ‘em, but they’ve closed three restaurants here.

Globe closes today

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Ugh:

Hi Cliff,

Just wanted to let you know that the Globe will be closing today instead of this Friday.

I had a gift certificate lying around and made a reservation for tomorrow night, but they called to let me know that they canceled and are shutting down tonight.

Bye-bye Food Studio

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

In other closing news, just got this press release from Melissa Libby PR:

FOOD STUDIO: A NEW CHAPTER

Fifth Group Restaurant Converts To Full-Time Event Space

ATLANTA (June 25, 2008) – From marriage proposals to wedding anniversaries, birthday celebrations to holiday parties, first dates to Mother’s Day, Food Studio®, a Fifth Group Restaurant®, has been one of Atlanta’s favorite restaurants and top choices for celebrating special occasions for more than 12 years.

But, as times change, so do the needs of Fifth Group Restaurants’ guests. That is why Fifth Group Restaurant Partners Robby Kukler, Steve Simon and Kris Reinhard are announcing that as of Saturday, July 19, Food Studio will convert to a full-time event space managed by the company’s award-winning catering division, Bold American® Catering.

“We’ve truly enjoyed operating Food Studio for the past twelve years, as it has been one of Atlanta’s most beloved restaurants, but I feel by closing the restaurant’s doors we are in turn opening many others” says Kukler. “Our patrons have always been passionate about Food Studio’s unique space and will still be able to appreciate the restaurant’s atmosphere in this new capacity,” he adds.

Big bummer

cerrado.jpgI made my usual bee-line for Zocalo in Grant Park Tuesday night and found it closed — permanently closed, judging by the disarray visible through the windows.

This follows the closing of the Zocalo in Decatur, leaving only the original 10th Street location open.

I am going to have major withdrawal from the taqueria’s al pastor quesadillas and the chile relleno tacos.

On behalf of The Epicurean Restaurant staff, we appreciate your support over the last 19 months, and hope you enjoyed your dining experiences with us as much as we enjoyed serving you.

I had only just recently discovered this restaurant and am sad to see it go. To read my May review of the restaurant, click here.

Seasons de Provence in Acworth to close

Friday, August 10th, 2007

After two-and-a-half years in business, Seasons de Provence, a French restaurant in Acworth, will close at the end of this month.

While many people loved the restaurant (it received a positive review in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution), my one experience eating there was disappointing.
