The Loafies & Morning Roundup
September 25, 2007 at 11:32 am by Wayne GarciaIf you missed The Loafies award show last night at Tampa Theatre (sponsored by 360 vodka which looked yum but which I didn’t partake of owing to both my appearance onstage and the diet thing), you missed the most unique event I’ve seen put on in this area. It showed a glimpse of what Tampa Bay could really become if our opinion leaders collectively got their heads out of their asses. Lots of fun and I hope we do it again (and a personal thanks to ABC Action News renaissance man Brendan McLaughlin for making us the best onstage duo since Martin and Lewis). And now, as Paul Harvey would say, stand by for news:
- Blogging on The Loafies — Pushing Rope was there (although we lost Michael’s award, sorry).
- GatorDem breaks down the recent St. Pete primaries. Key lesson? In a low turnout race, it’s all about getting your people to the polls on election day.
- Progressive talking points.
- More bad news for Republicans.
- Pollster.com demands answers about polls (why didn’t the MSM do this?? Rhetorical question …)
- The Taze’d Dude wrote for the SFSS.

I’m amused at this year’s Republican political scene. The candidates seem clueless as the RNC. Yet every day, I meet average, non-involved Republicans who seem to have some pretty darn good ideas of what is wrong with the party.

They key word there is non-involved. There are lots of GOP types who are frustrated at the far right-orientation of the party and its grip on the nominating process, frustrated to the point of withdrawing from the system. As for the money and sex corruption angles, it seems almost everybody in the party has a better idea of what is wrong than the party officials and those in Congress. But those in power will never willingly give up power, especially when it has so thoroughly corrupted their views and ideals.
