Back to Hollywood for Fred Thompson

January 22, 2008 at 4:53 pm by Wayne Garcia

The Rear Admiral is out of the presidential race, saying in a statement from his campaign:

Today I have withdrawn my candidacy for president of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort. I know I haven’t.

OK, I made that last line up. But really, what the hell was Thompson thinking? That the US public would embrace him as a hero, coronate him as the tough, non-nonsense guy we need and that he is so adept at playing on TV and in films?

Apparently, yes, he did.

In eulogy of his failed attempt at our nation’s highest land, here’s a link to our “interview” with Thompson last year, when hope was still alive and America once again had a shot at being a shining city on the hill.
