The Short List — Thurs., June 26
June 26th, 2008 by Joe Bardi in Presidential Politics, The Morning PapersBreaking news: John McCain is “aware” of both the Internet and computers. He doesn’t use them, silly. He just knows they exist — and that should be good enough for you.
- In other McCain news: Someone really loves their weekends.
- “Reporter M.E. Sprengelmeyer writes that Nader accused Barack Obama of ‘downplaying poverty issues, trying to ‘talk white’ and appealing to ‘white guilt’ during his run for the White House.’”
- The Supreme Court cuts the damages Exxon has to pay for the Valdez disaster to
1/5th1/10th their original value. The best part: Alito had to recuse himself, as he owns Exxon stock and stands to gain from this decision. - The Axis of Evil loses another member as North Korea is removed from the list. That just leaves Iran, right?
- Old school: Tuppeware parties. New school: Taser party.
- Coming soon: The Playstation phone.
- The Rays shelve the waterfront stadium plan … for now. (Does this mean they’ll stop winning?)
- Vinny to stick with the Lightning for life.

Weird Al parody song idea of the day: “John McCain is working for the weekend.”

How about “I’m only sleeping” by The Beatles.
I smell a Tatangelo Top Ten list in the making.

thanks for that video clip and that link the PC Mag. I’ve never thought about the presidency in that light. You do need to embrace technology and use it to govern. That goes for every politician on every level.
perhaps this election cycle we will have the removal of all the old school- military industrial complex lovers and then the next cycle we’ll get rid of all the old politicians that don’t use modern technology.

It’s one of those things that seems obvious (no pun intended) in retrospect. Think of all the shots you’ve ever seen of Bush behind his Oval Office desk.
(For the imaginationally challenged, here’s a link:

You notice there is no computer. Shocking, especially since we know the White House has e-mail. It must just be the man at the top who’s a Luddite.
I can think of many jobs that don’t require computer/Internet experience to qualify. However, I don’t think Commander In Chief should be one of them.

You mean Ralph Nader is still running? I thought he’d gone off to form his own country or something with the rest of the wackaloons.

“Wackaloons” — A Carlin reference?
