Video: Tea Parties on tax day won’t solve anything

Conservatives have not been shy to voice their concerns about Obama and his stimulus plan, especially with their new fad, Tea Parties. More than  600 Tea Parties are planned nationwide on tax day Wednesday, according to taxdayteaparty.com. There will be around 40 to 50 Tea Parties here in our home state. However, its not clear as to what the concerns over the stimulus really are because the protests are rife with attacks calling Obama a “socialist” or “commander in thief.”

However, the dumping of tea into rivers and lakes is not only a waste of tea, it’s a waste of an opportunity. I propose an alternative plan which will put that tea to good use:

Obama stimulus will create 150,000 jobs building roads

The White House today is touting new estimates on job creation from the stimulas bill by the end of 2010. That’s $28 billion worth of asphalt-layin’, engineerin’, project managin’, right-of-way buyin’ work.

Florida gets $1.3 billion of that, with $52 million of the state’s share going to the Tampa-St. Petersburg area, the second-biggest allocation after Miami.

America to Republicans: You’re wrong on the economy

The Republican Party’s anti-Obama stimulus gambit appears not to be paying off. A poll by AP/GfK shows the public widely is siding with Obama and Democrats in Congress on the economic recovery plan — and panning the GOP.

Obama’s approval rating on the economy is 68 percent. The Democrats in Congress get a 49 percent approval, while Congressional Republicans score only 33 percent approval.

The centrists on the stimulus plan: Get utilitarian

TITLE: A Crisis of Misunderstanding Economics

First and foremost, both sides need to drop the rhetoric and political ideology. The Republicans want less regulation. The Democrats want program spending. President Obama is pushing down the earmarks and promoting responsibility.

Conservatives and liberals need to consider reason and become earnestly conservative and utilitarian. Conserve and use wisely our resources to achieve productivity with purpose, for the long-term health of the economy.
