The hits just keep on coming for the Fabulous Fox Theatre, which recently announced it had snagged more kudos for its landmarkish ways. Venues Today magazine — anyone subscribe? — recently ranked the Fox as the No. 1 venue in America with a capacity seating between 2,001 and 5,000. The Fox beat out the competition both in revenue and attendance. Congrats! The news came in the magazine’s annual report in the December issue.
The Fox also was ranked second in North America among venues with a seating of 5,000 or less in Billboard’s December issue (based on total gross revenue), while Pollstar ranked the theater fifth in the world in the magazine’s top-100 venue rankings (based on ticket sales).
In a press release about the announcements, Fox GM Allan C. Vella attributed the venue’s success to its dual role as a performing-arts venue and as a not-for-profit one.
In order to succeed in all of its varied aspects, it requires that the theater adopt and implement the industry’s best practices. The Fox is the only theatre in the country with a full-time restoration department. The theater itself is a National Historic Landmark that is faithfully restored and maintained without the need of annual capital campaigns. The Fox also manages outreach programs for the children of Atlanta.
