See & Do: Film: Starring Javier Bardem
May 8th, 2008 by Amber Robinson in Film
Spanish actor Javier Bardem runs the acting gamut, whether he portrays a quadriplegic petitioning for the right to self-euthanization, a sociopathic serial killer or a gay man living in ’80s-era Manhattan. Bardem struts his stuff in the High Museum’s STARRING JAVIER BARDEM film fest, beginning Thurs., MAY 8, in a slew of films that differ as much as the eras and individuals they portray. Director Julian Schnabel’s Before Night Falls (right), a retelling of Cuban author Reinaldo Arenas’ memoir of the same name, is the first of four films in the series. It chronicles Arenas’ life growing up in revolutionary Cuba, a brutal prison stint and his eventual escape to Manhattan. In English, Spanish, French and Russian with subtitles. Through June 26. $4-$5. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Woodruff Arts Center, Rich Theatre, 1280 Peachtree St. 404-733-4444. www.high.org.
