Rambow-related clips, 1: Hammer and Tongs
May 15th, 2008 by Curt Holman in NewsAs a tie-in to Son of Rambow (opening Friday, May 16), I have a podcast interview with writer/director Garth Jennings and producer Nick Goldsmith. Their previous big-screen collaboration was The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, but they secured their reputation on the basis of numerous witty and stylish music videos, which they produced under the name “Hammer & Tongs.” In addition to Son of Rambow, in the podcast interview we talk a bit about the process of making music videos, particularly Blur’s “Coffee & TV,” and how a walking milk carton became the videos’ protagonist. Here’s a collection of Hammer & Tongs’ music videos:
“Coffee & TV” - Blur
Do milk cartons go to heaven?
“A-Punk” - Vampire Weekend
It’s kind of like something The Monkees would do in the early 21st century, only not annoying.
“Hell Yes” - Beck
Do dancing robots ever get old?
“Pumping on Your Stereo” - Supergrass
To me, this evokes the trippy puppetry of the Sid & Marty Krofft era
“Right Here, Right Now” - Fatboy Slim
A vision of the height of evolution.
“Jigsaw Falling into Place” - Radiohead
Filmed with headcams!
