See & Do: Comedy: Ben Bailey
Friday, May 30th, 2008
Comedian BEN BAILEY rocks for two reasons – he’s funny as hell and he hosts one of the best shows on television, Discovery’s “Cash Cab.” Bailey will be at the Funny Farm for four nights, continuing Fri., MAY 30, and you don’t want to miss this opportunity to hear him wax intellectual on what balls and sideburns have in common. May 29-June 1. $15. Thurs., 8:30 p.m.; Fri.-Sat., 8 and 10:30 p.m.; Sun., 8 p.m. 608 Holcomb Bridge Road, Roswell. 770-817-4242. www.funnyfarmcomedyclub.com.

RON WHITE delivers his jokes with a Southern twang made raspy by countless packs of cigarettes and slowed down by who knows how many bottles of gin. It’s not just an act – White really is just a drinkin’, smokin’ good ol’ boy with a lot of funny stories to tell. One of the original Blue Collar comics, White’s appeal lies in his ability to sarcastically regale us with the events of his life, pointing out how stupid everyone else is along the way. He’ll be at the Fox Theatre for one night only Sat., APRIL 5, and he’s popular in the Dirty Dirty, so don’t wait too long to get your ticket. $44.75. 7, 10 p.m. 660 Peachtree St. 404-881-2100.

SINBAD is one of the few comedians who can do clean comedy without sounding corny. The big man who used to rock a parrot’s feather as an earring has starred in such films as House Guest and served as a longtime host of “Showtime at the Apollo,” but he truly shines as a stand-up comedian, somehow making family-oriented PG material cool. He stops in tonight, JAN. 19, for one performance only. $37.50. 8 p.m. Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway. 770-916-2800.
CARL RIMI is a comic on the rise. The Florida native’s quirky, observational comedy earned him opening gigs for such industry heavyweights as Dave Attell and Dave Chappelle before blossoming into a headliner himself. He has an energetic style and clever material that keep audiences interested and entertained. He finishes a four-night stint at the Punchline tonight, DEC. 23. $16.50-$18.50. 8 p.m. 280 Hilderbrand Drive. 404-252-5233.
When BIG KENNEY takes the stage, his foot-long dreadlocks and 6-foot-3-inch, 250-pound frame belies the comedian’s gentle and articulate delivery; his rant on dealing with automated phone operators is especially hilarious. He’s a member of the Blacktop Circus Improv Troupe, and a local comedy-scene staple performing at the Funny Farm today, DEC. 6, and Sun., DEC. 9. $15. 8 p.m. 608 Holcomb Bridge Road, Roswell. 770-817-4242.
