seedo5-1_49.jpg

Comedian SCOTTY K is a true road warrior. With more than a decade’s worth of experience driving back and forth across the country to perform in any and every club, his résumé is as diverse as the jokes in his act. The disciple of Dana Carvey, Scotty plays a variety of characters on stage, each as unique and high-energy as the next — you’ll laugh so hard at his impression of the guitarist from Styx you might piss your pants. Catch the last show of his three-day gig at the Punchline Sun., APRIL 13. April 10-13. $18-$20. Fri., 8 and 10 p.m.; Sat., 7, 9 and 11 p.m.; Sun., 8 p.m. 280 Hilderbrand Drive. 404-252-5233. www.punchline.com.

See & Do: Ron White

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

white-1.jpgRON WHITE delivers his jokes with a Southern twang made raspy by countless packs of cigarettes and slowed down by who knows how many bottles of gin. It’s not just an act – White really is just a drinkin’, smokin’ good ol’ boy with a lot of funny stories to tell. One of the original Blue Collar comics, White’s appeal lies in his ability to sarcastically regale us with the events of his life, pointing out how stupid everyone else is along the way. He’ll be at the Fox Theatre for one night only Sat., APRIL 5, and he’s popular in the Dirty Dirty, so don’t wait too long to get your ticket. $44.75. 7, 10 p.m. 660 Peachtree St. 404-881-2100. www.foxtheatre.org.

Here’s a taste of Ron’s irrepressible Southern wit …

TOMMY DAVIDSON’s career may have cooled off some since his days on the megahit sketch comedy show “In Living Color,” but he certainly hasn’t lost his knack for making an audience laugh. Along with film performances in Booty Call and Juwanna Mann, Davidson lent his voice to the animated Disney Channel series “The Proud Family.” He’s also a talented physical comedian with a range of trademark facial contortions and voices. Davidson performs tonight and tomorrow., FEB. 13-14, at Uptown Comedy Corner. $20-$35. Wed., 8 p.m.; Thurs., 8 and 10:30 p.m. 800 Marietta St. 404-881-0200. www.ticketmaster.com.

See & Do: Marc Maron

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

marcbaron.jpg(www.marcmaron.com)

Although MARC MARON’s not a household name, he’s definitely an industry heavyweight who deserves to be more famous. Maron’s brilliant comedy mixes self-deprecation, social observation and a nonconformist attitude. In a great set about Christmas and differences between Jews and Gentiles, he quips, “Oh yeah, sit on the fat guy’s lap and ask him for shit … and they say Jews are the ones with the funny customs.” Maron performs for four nights at the Funny Farm beginning Thurs., FEB. 7. Through Feb. 10. $12-$15. Thurs., Sun., 8:30 p.m.; Fri., 8 p.m.; Sat. 8 and 10:30 p.m. 608 Holcomb Bridge Road, Roswell. 770-817-4242. www.funnyfarmcomedyclub.com.

Originally from the Sunshine State, TOM RHODES spent years as the David Letterman of Amsterdam before returning stateside to resume his stand-up career. Rhodes comes from the school of observational comedy and isn’t afraid to talk about politics. His well-known Comedy Central performance “Viva Vietnam” paid homage to troops. He’s a thinking man’s comic, so expect humor that makes you reflect as much as it makes you laugh. He continues a four-night run at the Punchline tonight, JAN. 26. Through Jan. 27. $18-$22. Thurs., 8 p.m.; Fri., 8 and 10 p.m.; Sat., 7, 9 and 11 p.m.; Sun., 8 p.m. 280 Hilderbrand Drive. 404-252-5233. www.punchline.com.

See & Do: Sinbad

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

d04e_seedo_shortlist_online1_1_37_jpg-original.jpgSINBAD is one of the few comedians who can do clean comedy without sounding corny. The big man who used to rock a parrot’s feather as an earring has starred in such films as House Guest and served as a longtime host of “Showtime at the Apollo,” but he truly shines as a stand-up comedian, somehow making family-oriented PG material cool. He stops in tonight, JAN. 19, for one performance only. $37.50. 8 p.m. Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway. 770-916-2800. www.cobbenergycentre.com.

See & Do: Comedian Carl Rimi

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

4de4_see_1223_jpg-original.jpgCARL RIMI is a comic on the rise. The Florida native’s quirky, observational comedy earned him opening gigs for such industry heavyweights as Dave Attell and Dave Chappelle before blossoming into a headliner himself. He has an energetic style and clever material that keep audiences interested and entertained. He finishes a four-night stint at the Punchline tonight, DEC. 23. $16.50-$18.50. 8 p.m. 280 Hilderbrand Drive. 404-252-5233. www.punchline.com.

See & Do: John Heffron stands up

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

comedy.jpg

After winning Season Two of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” JOHN HEFFRON became one of the circuit’s most sought-after headliners. As his life has evolved from college slob to husband and father, so has his material, trading jokes about the ill effects of drinking for routines about frequent visits to the doctor and Home Depot. Heffron brings his laid-back routine to the Funny Farm for four nights, closing out today, DEC. 16. $15-$20. Thurs., 8:30 p.m.; Fri.-Sat., 8 and 10:30 p.m.; Sun., 8 p.m. 608 Holcomb Bridge Road, Roswell. 770-817-4242. www.funnyfarmcomedyclub.com.

Here’s a taste of the winning routine …

See & Do: Big Kenney

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

bigkenny.jpgWhen BIG KENNEY takes the stage, his foot-long dreadlocks and 6-foot-3-inch, 250-pound frame belies the comedian’s gentle and articulate delivery; his rant on dealing with automated phone operators is especially hilarious. He’s a member of the Blacktop Circus Improv Troupe, and a local comedy-scene staple performing at the Funny Farm today, DEC. 6, and Sun., DEC. 9. $15. 8 p.m. 608 Holcomb Bridge Road, Roswell. 770-817-4242. www.funnyfarmcomedyclub.com.
