Atlanta Downhill Challenge at the Starlight Drive In

For the third year, Atlantans have gathered at the Starlight to watch as people in homemade soapbox cars compete in a downhill race.  The day included cold messy weather, several crashes, lots of alcohol and live music.  Particular standouts were the homemade hummer racer that won for best design and the crowd moving performance by Here Come the Mummies.

Mattress Factory Open Studios

For Fall, the Mattress Factory hosted a night of open artist studios.  The show featured painting, photography, sculpture, live music, performance art, and other general debauchery.

Indian Festival and Pow Wow at Stone Mountain

Stone Mountain Park held the 9th Annual Indian Festival and Pow Wow Nov. 6-9. All the bright artistry and stirring music of Native American culture was on display for the education of those unfamiliar and the enjoyment of the well-versed.

Atlanta Indie Music Festival at The Bench

Last night The Bench, Atlanta’s urban clothing boutique and art gallery, hosted the indie music festival, which featured several local hip-hop groups. Crowds gathered around the outdoor stage to hear their favorite underground artists and enjoyed the party after the show.

Georgia Democratic Party’s Official Election Party

The Hyatt downtown was the place to be last night as the election results rolled in. A band entertained while people watched CNN on the huge projection screen. When Obama was finally projected to win, the room erupted – people were screaming, crying, dancing, and hugging total strangers. Driving home, the streets of Atlanta were filled with the sound of horns honking and screams of “O-bam-a, O-bam-a!”

Saxby Chambliss hosts GOP party in Buckhead

While the eyes of the world and nation were affixed on the race between Barack Obama and John McCain, U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss was running a tight one himself against Democratic nominee Jim Martin. On Nov. 4, the Republican incumbent — who as things stand now is facing a runoff — hosted his fellow Republicans at the Intercontinental Hotel in Buckhead. Cash bars, fancy suits and pretty women were a-plenty. As well as open-jawed silence around midnight when McCain conceded to the senator from Illinois.

Atlanta Comic Convention at the Marriott

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

This Sunday from 11-5 pm the Marriott Century Center hosted one of the largest comic conventions in the Southeast.  Vendors provided an assortment of comics, memorabilia, videos, cards, and other goodies.  Various celebrities were in attendance such as Georges Jeanty from Buffy the Vampire Slayer Comics, the Punisher, and Dingo the Comic Fan Dog.
