N.E.R.D. and Janelle Monae at The Tabernacle

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

When hip-pop acts the likes of these industry contenders come together, it is almost always a loud, colorful and beautiful thing. Janelle Monae jump-started Wednesday night’s performance at The Tabernacle with her signature antics and stomach-humming voice. N.E.R.D. followed it up with so much jumping around that, between them and the also height-achieving crowd, the floor rarely stopped shaking.

And that was the point of the We Are All One Block Party held August 16. With film screenings, live bands, poets, DJ’s spinning, masseuses on hand and a live graffiti creation going on, the block was defnitely hot. And unified.

Oldies but goodies were in large supply as Journey, Heart and Cheap Trick took the stage at Chastain Park Amphitheatre in Buckhead Aug. 3. Though the decades of each band’s popularity and the style of rock varies, all three groups share the knowledge of how to make a crowd happy.
