Top 10: Songs You Won’t Find on ‘Dylan’

October 3rd, 2007 by Wade Tatangelo in News

51ktgmpto6l_aa240_.jpgSony has once again trotted out a Bob Dylan best-of collection. This one is a three-discer titled Dylan, which shouldn’t be confused with the 1973 album of the same name that was released when the artist temporarily left his old company.

Dylan the hits collection doesn’t offer a single previously unreleased track or even an interesting — as in rare or live performance — overview of arguably the most influential songwriter of the 20th century. Save your money for the actual albums and/or the highly recommended, nearly essential Biograph box.

Anyway, here’s a list of songs, with the album they originally appeared, that should be on Dylan — but aren’t. I stuck to studio tracks, since that’s all that’s on the new compilation.

1. “Idiot Wind” Blood on the Tracks

2. “Visions of Johanna” Blonde on Blonde

3. “Desolation Row,” Highway 61 Revisited

4. “Every Grain of Sand,” Infidels

5. “Love Sick,” Time Out of Mind

6. “Most of the Time,” Oh Mercy

7. “It’s Alright Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)” Bringing It All Back Home

8. “Tears of Rage” The Basement Tapes

9. “The Man in Me,” New Morning

10. “Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll” The Times They Are -Changin’

WHAT DID I MISS?

I am as outraged as your are …Sony shit heads. Speaking of outrage, do you ever check your Creative Loafing e-mail? I e-mailed you on the 19th of September.
