Top 10: Sunday reads

  • David Dondero delivered a killer solo set last night (actually it was earlier this morning, he went on past 1 a.m.) at New World Brewery, a bar that’s so hip its MySpace profile is set to private. Modern Skirts; Have Gun, Will Travel; and Nessie also turned in strong showings. Look for my concert review with pics here tomorrow. Or later today. If I skip football. And beer drinking. And finishing next week’s Bar Tab column.
  • Radiohead rocking record industry and everybody is talking about it.
  • Springsteen, 58, starting to show his age. Sorta. Concerts now clocking in at a human-like 2 hours and 15 minutes.
  • Clapton’s discusses new autobiography: guitar deity-ness, drugs, stealing best friend’s wife … y’know the story.
  • Rolling Stone gives Jagger’s new greatest hits collection of none-hit solo tracks 4.5 (out of 5) review. C’mon, Jann, aren’t you a little old to still be kissing your hero’s ass?
  • Hardcore troubadour Steve Earle has been married eight times. Count ‘em: 8! Admits to being a socialist. Or at least wanting to see U.S. “try socialism.” Somewhere in Tennessee another copy of Guitar Town is being burned.
  • Outlaws founder and Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Hughie Thomasson died last month of a heart attack at his home in Brooksville. Nice obit here by former Rolling Stone scribe/CMT.com editor Chet Flippo.
