Rory Gallagher: “A Million Miles Away”

November 6th, 2007 by Wade Tatangelo in News

Finally got hip to Irish singer/songwriter and guitar great Rory Gallagher last month when I picked up the CD Irish Tour (1974). The clip I posted here is from the documentary/DVD of the same title. Watch as Gallagher performs his signature song “A Million Miles Away,” a plaintive, powerful rock epic about temporary losing one’s self in an alcohol-fueled haze.

“Right now the blues want to surround me,” he growls. He battles back with fiery, emotive, guitar solos. Pure catharsis.

Yes, Rory’s the man. Got so drunk he left his guitar in some bushes behind a wall, and went and fetched it a week later. Still there. Much better ‘blues’ player than SRV.
