Top 10: Songs about footwear
February 22nd, 2008 by Wade Tatangelo in News
Don’t know exactly what prompted me to devote a song list to footwear. I own far less shoes than most adult men and only purchase a new pair when an old pair verges on falling apart. Anyway, here ya go:
Top 10: Songs about footwear
1. “Blue Suede Shoes,” Carl Perkins/Elvis Presley
2. “My Adidas,” Run-DMC
3. “These Boots Were Made For Walking,” Nancy Sinatra
4. “Boots of Spanish Leather,” Bob Dylan
5. “(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes,” Elvis Costello
6. “Fuck Me Pumps,” Amy Winehouse
7. “(I Don’t Want To) Hang Up My Rock and Roll Shoes,” The Band
8. “Sailin’ Shoes,” Little Feat
9. “High Heel Sneakers,” Tommy Tucker
10. “Bad Sneakers,” Steely Dan
WHAT DID I MISS?

This just popped into my head, but how about “Boogie Shoes” by KC & The Sunshine Band?

Good call on all three.
Much to our senior editor’s chagrin, I’ve always had a soft spot for KC, probably because my dad played the Miami disco-funker a lot when I was a kid. A couple weeks ago, I risked the scornful looks of the hipster clerks at Vinvyl Fever and picked up a used copy of KC’s greatest hits — and am loving it.
By the way, Chuck Prophet did a great cover of “Boogie Shoes” a couple years back (last year?) at WMNF’s Tropical Heatwave.

“Collarbone,” my new favorite nonsensical song, by Fujiya & Miyagi … it’s not specifically about shoes, but shoes (and laces) are mentioned frequently.
“First time her collarbone tripped over my shoelaces
First time her collarbone tripped over my shoelaces
First time her collarbone tripped over my shoelaces
Over my shoelaces
Yeah, over my shoelaces
Got to get a new pair of shoes
to kick it with her, not kick it with you …”
and so on.

Nice one, Leilani.
No Phish or Umphrey’s selections?
