Winner for worst canned quote of the summer (italics are mine): “Are you kidding me?!! We are chomping at the bit to get out this summer and rock!” says Jani Lane, lead singer and songwriter of Warrant. “The original Warrant has mucho grande chemistry! When we did the first rehearsal in 14 years I just stepped back in awe and thought…’Man, now this is Warrant!!’ I think fans will have a similar experience this summer!!’”

Winner for worst music video of all time:

Here’s the Warrant press release:

WARRANT
REUNITE FOR TOUR WITH CINDERELLA,
A FEATURED SLOT ON ROCKLAHOMA
AND OTHER DATES THIS SUMMER

WARRANT got its fill of ‘cherry pie’ in the ‘80s and ‘90s, but apparently that was not enough to squelch the band’s hunger. With the return of its original members for the first time in almost 15 years, WARRANT will storm back to the stage this summer for a massive tour with Cinderella, a featured slot on Rocklahoma and a handful of other dates.

For the first time since 1994, original WARRANT members JANI LANE (vocals), JOEY ALLEN (lead guitar), JERRY DIXON (bass), ERIK TURNER (guitar) and STEVEN SWEET (drums) will grace stages across the land together. They’ll deliver a brand new and exciting stage show encompassing material from their first two multi-platinum albums Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich and Cherry Pie, plus the gold album Dog Eat Dog including such unforgettable hits as “Cherry Pie,” “Down Boys,” “Heaven,” “Sometimes She Cries,” “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” and many more.

“Are you kidding me?!!

Their summer-long trek kicks off with a show with Motley Crue in Montreal June 22 at Parc Jean Drapeau and then on their own in Toronto June 23 at the Phoenix Concert Theater. Next, from July 2 until August 16, they’ll hook up with Cinderella, Lynch Mob and Lynam for a national tour. They’ll round out the summer with a closing show with Alice Cooper August 17 at the Fortune Bay Casino in Tower, MN.

WARRANT, formed in 1984 by Erik Turner and Jerry Dixon, forged their way into the American glam rock scene in February 1989 with the release of Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich (Columbia Records). A blistering world tour of 262 shows helped push the 10-track record over double platinum status—2.5 million to be exact. The CD spawned three singles-–“Down Boys,” “Sometimes She Cries” and “Heaven,” the latter of which alone has sold over 750,000 units.

Topping their freshman success may have seemed like a daunting task, but the band members proved they were up to the challenge. Cherry Pie–the band’s second album (Columbia Records)–followed 19 months later and solidified WARRANT’s standing in rock history. The band toured again at home and abroad with 200+ shows pushing USA sales of Cherry Pie up to 2.7 million. The record’s title track became perhaps the band’s most recognizable hit and the album peaked at #7 on the charts.

Today, the buzz surrounding WARRANT remains. Since their success in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, the band has seen many changes but has remained a key cog in the ever-changing rock landscape. WARRANT has endured death, changes in record label and loss of band members, but with these reunion shows on the horizon, plus plans to re-enter the studio this fall to cut a new album for release next year, it appears these hardships have only fueled WARRANT’s drive.

i thought for sure this was going to be a gig at the new port richey dive Bourbon Street. i am unfortunately mistaken.

  2. Wade Tatangelo Says:

Oh no, JJ, this is Tampa, and this town loves it’s shitty hair metal the way the … love its …. Sorry, in these PC correct/economically-shitty times I don’t have the balls to say what came to mind.

  3. kellie Says:

Cinderella played Club Heat in Bradenton in ‘95 when it was called Outer Limits. One of the girls I work with had her purse stolen oddly enough while they were singing ” Don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone”. True story.

  4. Steve White Says:

these bands are great in concert
you guys are probably grunge nerd losers lol

show your smart ass column to any member of Warrant or Cinderella and see how funny it is

  5. Wade Tatangelo Says:

Steve, are you insinuating that the musicians would beat me up if they saw what I wrote? That’s sweet. I didn’t realize Warrant’s fanbase reached fifth graders.

  6. kellie Says:

You’d probably have to read the article to them. All those years of excessive exposure to hair products combined with having their junk stuffed into leather pants with a shoe horn undoubtedly impaired their ability to read.

  7. rick Says:

It’s funny how I saw bloated fat ass Jani Lane on TV saying how he hates the song Cherry Pie, and wishes he had never recorded it. I guess that AquaNet all soaked into his head. Remember he was a drummer from the bay area and cut his teeth playing Mr T’s Club 19 in a band called Dorian Grey. Hey Jani I guess having to pay for the pizza these days can make hard feelings go away and a reunion tour possible. What jackholes. I’m waiting for the Y&T reunion with special guests Kenny McGee and the Ass Clown Brigade

warrant played a free show at usf’s soccer field back in 1997, guess it wasn’t the “original” line-up. they were not on tour, so usf paid to fly them in and rented every last piece of gear for them. a friend of mine was running one of the sound boards and made me come out to keep him company. first off, warrent was late getting there; they pulled up to the sun dome thinking they were playing there. they also requested a separate sound board for them, they refused to use the one that the local openers would be using. they played awful. really fucking awful. i abandon my friend and walked home after three songs. the band and crew were staying at a hotel that my then wife worked at. i went there after the show to hang and tell her how god fucking awful it was. as i’m giving a very laughable description to her, they were standing right behind me waiting to check in. they heard every word i said about them! later, when jani came back to the hotel very wasted, he proceeded to call my wife at the front desk from his room, saying some very dirty yet juvenile things, trying to get her to come up. it got to the point that she called their manager to get him to stop and threatened to call the police to have them all thrown out of the hotel at 4am. since that night 11 years ago, i have vowed to kick jani lane in the nuts if i ever had the chance. i’ve come close (being in random cities around the country when he happened to be playing), but this could be my best chance yet!
