Hank Williams Jr. is a phony populist, idiot

October 29th, 2008 by Wade Tatangelo in News

I’ve always had a soft spot for Bocephus, especially his early material. For instance, his 1976 album Hank Williams Jr. & Friends is a genuine classic. But now he’s turned into a rich bloated, redneck — hanging with Kid Rock and stuffing his face with a steady diet of filet mignons and retard sandwiches.

Listening to this ridiculously erroneous pro-McCain song he penned (a rewrite of my beloved “Family Tradition”), I can no longer call myself a fan of the man — and I own a half-dozen of his CDs. “Wow, I’m saddened and embarrassed by this,” reads one comment. I couldn’t agree with it more. Or the broadcaster who calls Junior a “fake populist.” Go back to you mansion, Bocephus, and go suck on one those Cuban cigars you adore, you fucking fraud!

Well said. Thanks for having the courage to say your piece. I agree. It’s a shameful, disgusting and embarrassing display of ignorance set to “music.”

  2. Shiraz Says:

shut up and quit crying libtard. you look like a Muslim terrorist.

  3. Shiraz Says:

    you look like a terrorist

  4. Wade Tatangelo Says:

Shiraz: “Libtard.” That’s funny and I might have to steal the word from you for future use.

But it sincerely scares/troubles me to read hate rhetoric such as “you look like a Muslim terrorist.”

    Sad, Shiraz. Very sad.

  5. Sweet Blahg Says:

Oh Shiraz, rather bitter flavor there – what happened? You used to taste so good.. Someone must have left you sitting out overnight without your cork..

  6. mary merat Says:

what a moron you arehank doesn’t need false fans of your kind. he was, is, and always will be the king. go support some jackass without the balls to speak his mind.

  7. Wade Tatangelo Says:

Mary: So, I’m a “false fan” because I don’t agree with Junior’s idiotic reasoning that the current financial crisis was caused by Clinton forcing bankers to lend money? Please. Just remember, Bocephus used to be a real rebel, singing songs about guzzling whiskey, chasing women, and overdosing in Denver. More important, he used to sing genuine populist lines like: “I can barely live on my take-home pay/There’s a whole lotta people who agree with what I say/Don’t tell me to ride a bus and turn down my Thermostat/ When you’re all riding around in jets and Cadillacs/We can’t take this lying down, we gotta try and fight back/’Til they believe what we said/We’re tired of being Johnny B. Goode and we gotta be Johnny Rebs.”

Now that’s the Hank Junior I like!

  8. Artist formally known as Meghan Says:

I’d like it if Hank dipped his retard sandwich in my a-jew sauce.

Since we are being all PC and stuff today…

  9. Bocfusfaninfl Says:

Hank Jr. has not changed his stance one bit, he has always stood for the simple man and his “McCain-Palin Tradition” exemplifies his beliefs. He should be commended for taking a stance, not critized. You may not agree with his position, but a “true fan” wouldn’t post such a hard critism of someone you claim to be a fan of. He doesn’t need “fans” like you.

Furthermore, you should do a better job of researching before you blast someone, Hank lives on a farm in Paris, Tennessee, not a mansion in the heart of Trashville.

Guess you won’t be at the show in Crystal River in Decmber. I sure will be with about 20 other fans from across the country sitting on the front row.

  10. Wade Tatangelo Says:

Bocfusfaninfl: Putting a mansion on an enormous tract of land and calling it a farm doesn’t change the fact that he lives in a mansion, a million miles away from the working class people he claims to represent in song.

  11. Bocfusfaninfl Says:

There you go again, spouting off about stuff you don’t know shit about. The only people living in Paris, Tennessee are the WORKING CLASS. You are the typicial liberal do-gooder that attacks someone that has a contradicting opinion. His house is far from the “mansion” you keep wanting to charachterize. Another typical liberal stance, chastise those who have worked hard. Why shouldn’t he have a “mansion”, he has sold over 70 million records! And don’t forget he donated over $100,000, of HIS personal money to the Katrina Relief efforts.

If you are going to bash someone, you need to get your fucking facts straight!

  12. Adam Says:

Wade Tatangelo, Just so you know, Hank does own a farm in rural Pike County Alabama and its no mansion either. People don’t want to talk about the good things Hank does as Bocfusfaninfl said he donated over 100k to the Katrina fund, Hank visited a Virginia coal miner after he was trapped in a mine, He plays an active role in the education of his children and their school, has played countless benefit concerts. I don’t see any one criticizing Madonna for endorsing Obama or any of the other left wing liberal celebrities. Hank does not need fans or “former fans” such as your self to down him just because you disagree with the man, is just stupid. He is an American and has the right to freedom of speech if you don’t like it TURN THE CHANNEL! Did you like his re-write of A Country Boy Can Survive to America Can Survive after 9/11? What is the difference? He wrote that song in support of something he believed in HIS COUNTRY, now he wrote another supporting another of his beliefs and now he is “populist”? well the definition of Populism is a discourse which supports “the people” versus “the elites.” Democrat John Edwards called himself a “Populist” It sounds to me that you are being hippocratical.

  13. JosephBW Says:

Well Wade, that’s your opinion, and I guess you’re certainly entitled to it. However, I simply don’t understand where you’re coming from. Let’s see here…you applaud “Hank Williams Jr. and Friends,” a truly breakthough album for Williams, where he teamed up with southern rockers and rebels like Toy and Tommy Caldwell, Dicky Betts, Charlie Daniels, etc. This was rather frowned upon by the Nashville establishment back in the seventies, yet Hank Jr. displayed a gigantic “F Off” to all of them and proceeded to go his own way. And here he is doing it again, collaborating with Kid Rock, a move decried by several fans of “traditional” Bocephus. Yet isn’t this just Hank Williams Jr. being Hank Williams Jr.?

Like you, Williams is entitled to his opinion. I happen to agree with him, and if you’ll do a little research instead of believing everything the news outlets shove down your throat, you’ll see that Clinton did have a hand in the subprime mortgage crisis. However, even if I did NOT agree with him, I don’t think I’d go so far as to disavow myself of his music. I mean, hey, I like Billy Joel, and he’s a left wing loon. Doesn’t meant I’m gonna stop listening to “Piano Man” any time soon. So, given that you so easily turn your nose up at the Hank’s music, I have to wonder about the authenticity of your claim to be a Hank fan.

By the way, “populist?” One of the great populists was Huey Long of Louisiana. Check out his rhetoric; pretty much the same as Barack Obama’s. Class warfare, redistribution of wealth, etc. There’s nothing new under the sun, and, as Hank and J.R. Cash once sang, “that ol’ wheel, it’s gonna roll around once more.”

  14. CorsicanRedneck Says:

You, Mister, are the f…ing fraud. Hank did more good than you can ever do in your sorry little excuse of a life. He’s not a sorry ass city boy like you who think it’s cool to call someone who you disagree with a “f…ing fraud”. Your comments and attitude are what’s disgraceful. Also, if you’d call yourself a man, you don’t say “f… you” to someone on the radio waves, you say it to their face. I, for one, would really enjoy to meet you in the back parking lot and show you how it’s done, your little coward.
    Looser.

  15. John Says:

I’m sure that if Hank did a song endorsing Obama you would say that he’s a great guy. How hypocrit and stupid.

  16. Wade Tatangelo Says:

CorsicanRedneck: You know what a real man also does? Writes under his own name rather than hiding under a sorry ass pseudonym like “CorsicanRedneck.”

  17. Bob Says:

CorsicanRedneck I would be there on behalf of Wade and as the great Hank said-Id love to spit some beechnut in that dudes eyes
And shoot him with my old 45
    C ya there!!

  18. CorsicanRedneck Says:

“CorsicanRedneck: You know what a real man also does? Writes under his own name rather than hiding under a sorry ass pseudonym like “CorsicanRedneck.””

Don’t try to spin things around, little dude. YOU are the one insulting Hank. YOU are the one saying “F… you” on radio instead of going to see Hank face to face. I ain’t the one who starts shit up and can’t back it up.

  19. kellie Says:

I guess he told YOU, you “looser”.
