Lorna Bracewell urges fairness for all Floridians

Internationally known, St. Pete-based singer/songwriter Lorna Bracewell is not one to cram politics down the throats of her fans.
But she feels especially passionate about Amendment 2 and we couldn’t agree with her more on the issue.
Here’s the email Bracewell’s manager sent this morning:
A personal note from Lorna:
Dear Florida fans, supporters, friends and associates,
Over the years I have enthusiastically used the platform I have access to as a musician to draw attention to important social issues such as domestic violence and sex discrimination. I have never used that platform to take sides in a political debate. Today, however, I am doing just that. I am writing to ask you to vote NO on Amendment 2, which will be on the Florida ballot in just a few days – November 4th…
The deceptively named “marriage protection” amendment is harmful because it targets all unmarried couples, both gay and straight, by taking away protections like health insurance and the ability to make medical decisions for each other in the hospital. I am one of the millions of Floridians this amendment will hurt.
Of course, this amendment won’t protect anyone’s marriage. It will however make it harder for people who love each other to take care of one another. It does this by eliminating domestic partner benefits currently relied on by millions of Floridians – gay and straight, and by banning the possibility of civil unions in the future.
Florida already forbids the legal recognition of same-sex marriage and this amendment does nothing to change that.
Please stand with me in voting NO on Amendment 2 this election. Current polling shows that this measure will pass or fail by a razor thin margin. That’s why I am working hard to get the word out. You can also help defeat Amendment 2 by talking to others and making a donation to the campaign.
Visit www.VoteNoOn2.com and be sure to tell everyone you know to vote NO on Amendment 2.
Thank you!
Lorna
