No show but plenty of drama

December 29th, 2008 by Infinite Skillz in Making N.O.I.S.E., News

The concert at the Hall with Obie Trice never happened. Mr. Trice canceled on the morning of the show because supposedly his house was raided by law enforcement and he was being detained for questioning. If that smells like Motown manure to you too then congratulations! You’re not gullible either.

He didn’t get arrested. I’d love to ask him face to face the real reason why Mr. Real Name No Gimmicks decided to pull this last minute missed appearance act, but my wish to maintain a clean criminal record will probably keep me from pursuing that.

I was initially informed of the cancellation around 11am the day of the show via Myspace. I called The Mind Syndicate to find out if this was true. They assured me the show was still going on as they had heard nothing about a cancellation, but said they’d call me back after making sure. That return call came around 2PM while I was in the mall with F.a.T and Milo. That’s when I got the original excuse Obie gave them of getting arrested…

At 2:15 in the afternoon I sent out a mass text message to more than 100 people to inform them of the cancellation.

Around 3 p.m. I was contacted by the main house DJ for The Hall to see if we would still perform even if Obie didn’t. He said we would actually be the ONLY act performing. I said yes of course.

At 3:05 I sent out another mass text message reversing my earlier message.

At 9:00 p.m. we arrived at the club and found out they only had one wireless mic and one wired mic located in the DJ booth because the sound company originally scheduled was cancelled when Obie cancelled. We needed three wireless mics.

I made arrangements with a friend for two other mics to be delivered after trying unsuccessfully to find some at Walmart. They arrived at the club around 10pm. After 30 minutes of trying to get them to interface with the mixer in the DJ booth without massive feedback it was determined that it was not possible.

At 10:30  we informed those in attendance that the show was cancelled.

At 10:45 we proceeded to drink ourselves silly.

At 3:00 a.m. I packed three guys and two girls into my truck and proceeded to drive them all back to St. Petersburg.

At 3:20 a.m. this trip was halted because the two ladies decided that the worst night of my music career needed to be punctuated by a backseat catfight. As the fracas spilled into the street, I admittedly raised my voice in utter disbelief that so many things could go wrong on what was supposed to be such a good night. Anger and disappointment sober me up faster than coffee ever could. Eventually the pretty pugilists were subdued enough to allow the convoy to continue.

At 5:30 a.m. after a comparatively uneventful breakfast at IHOP I dropped all my passengers off at their destinations. One of the extras stayed the night at my place on the couch I’d been sleeping on. I slept in my truck. Oh what a night.

    Thas Bullshit!!!

  2. username Says:

Wow. I honestly don’t know how you kept it together. Especially after “friends” sealed the deal with a cat fight in your backseat. I don’t care how much alcohol or disappointment was involved, there’s no excuse for that kind of abuse.

Nor is there for Obie’s backing out on a lie, but what can you do about that. Who needed him anyway, you 3 headlining would have been incredible.

The worst part of this story is the mics and the rabid chicks.

Your temperament speaks volumes. Show or no show, I wish I had been there.

  3. iitsMOOKIE Says:

damn bro– that’s fucking horrible, maybe we’ll set it off in tampa some day!

  5. DJSe7en Says:

You know; I would expect many people to duck shows. But obie would be one of the last on that list..
This blows, Honestly; this would have been an amazing show.

It’s a shame that MC Mekhi Phifer’s such a dick. Don’t sweat it too much, though. He was shot in the head a few years ago. It’s called Reverse Karma.

  7. Curb Says:

Damn bro. That is one story to show people what is thrown at you in the music business. Not looking forward to having to deal with these kind of things, but hey, it builds character.

I agree though, worst part about this is the missing mics and fighting girls.

  8. Krispy Says:

the rundown sucks man, but you still have a lot going on. can’t wait for you and F.A.T. to finish the projects ya’ll are working on! onward to ownage!

  9. warbux Says:

obie probably got stage fright and forgot all the verses eminem wrote for him.

  10. Franksturr Says:

    Oh that’s gay as fuck.

On another note, you don’t have a bed (like an actual bed, not a couch)?

  11. Angela Says:

I’m never wishing you good luck again! (You like how in one sentence, I made the whole thing all about me?)

And I’m with the other guy, where’s your bed?

  12. Talaz Says:

    So fucking horrible

  13. ILL-LEGAL (SPREADTHEILLNESS.COM) Says:

Man, this is murphys law at play right there.

My question is how well do u know the promoter of this event? Sounds to me like u are blaming Obie when all the probs sound like promoter fuckups. In fact, do u have any confirmation from Obie’s camp at all that it was EVER in their plans to be there? I am pretty sure that show was never listed anywhere on Obies webpages. And I am sure u paid the promoter and it was a ticket pre-selling situation, so how was all that handled as far as refunds to u and those who purchases tix?

This is a shitty situation regardless, I’m just satin that it’s possible NONE of this had anything to do with Obie

  14. Infinite Skillz Says:

I know I’m not supposed to comment on my own stories, but I don’t want misinformation spreading.

I have a 3 year relationship with the promoter and before “Mr.” Trice was involved there were never any issues. I do not blame The Mind Syndicate at all. I didn’t pay them anything for this show and in fact would have made a profit had there not been a need to make refunds. The ticket pre-selling is something I agreed to because I believe in myself. From the amount of tickets I personally sold, that belief is not unwarranted.

As further compensation to my more loyal fans who actually made it out to the club, I am and have been passing out a CD which has all the full versions of the songs we were going to perform that night at no cost to them. I’m actually on my way to the post office to mail a copy to an out-of-towner who bought plane tickets for this event.

I will always take care of those who take care of me. I’m no Obie.

  15. Bob Bacon Says:

I was there to experience all of this firsthand, in fact, I’m the guy who crashed on his couch. To say this was disappointing and stressful is an understatement, that shit was catostrophic! We all kept our cool except for the females who couldn’t seem to stop fighting about something I can’t even remember. I’m sure theres a lesson to be learned here but I can’t figure it out. This kind of wackness shouldn’t happen to honest, hard working people like Infinite Skillz.

  16. Sancho Says:

ugh…wow @ all of this happening. this is complete bs cuz 1st the show was delayed and then you guys were supposed to be headlining (which would have made the show better anyway…forget obie, hes had like, 1 good song? that Em produced) and then the sound and mics were a mess up? im really sorry man i know this was a long time coming and everything was supposed to be so good then some bitches pull that shit? wow…i remember my 1st show (it was supposed to be me and some dudes i work with all night headlining) and about 20 minutes into it the power went out…so i started handin out free cds and started freestylin and the power never came back so i jus refunded all the ticket holders money…it was a show for the troops too…sucks…but DAMN a show on your guys level and one thats been planned for so long…im sorry dude. i really am

  17. Pooh Richardson Says:

Those broads need to take a chill pill. I would have gone Sean Connery on both their asses. Obie Trice can gargle my ballsac.

  18. -negative Says:

    damn…

  19. wandering Says:

    @Aimee
I love you too sweetie. Call me.

    -About the bed situation
I have a queen sized bed that is quite comfortable when I actually find time to use it. But I had two guests that night. One was Bob who posted earlier. He got the couch. The other guest got the bed.

  22. BIGBENT Says:

  24. DieN2LivE Says:

So dumb, so – so dumb. I can’t believe somebody like Obie would actually dodge a show. And one that would be DOPE such as yours. We all know that you and Obie would make a dope show. And then FaT.

This was a big shot for you guys, sorry this had to happen. Smh..

Atleast you smart enough to know to keep going! This is business!

    Keep it up, fam.

Despite all the negative, you left quite the impression. Oh What a night, indeed.

  26. Heather Says:

Maybe next time you should take a cab, WHEN YOU’VE BEEN DRINKING!!!! No drunk driving mister! :)

  27. Enygma Says:
