Anticlimatic ‘Sound’ off.

BBC News has finally revealed its number one “Sound of 2009” artist to watch in the new year. (If you don’t know what this new music series is by now, click here, here, here and here.)
Thus far, we’ve seen 1984 throwback duo La Roux at number five, tongue-in-cheek electro party band Empire of the Sun at number four, sassy UK songstress Florence and the Machine (my personal favorite) at number three, and dreary alt-rock trio White Lies at number two.
The number one artist to watch in 2009, according to BBC, is Little Boots. What I want to know is, who the fuck got paid to name this artist the most promising of 2009? Little fucking Boots? The name is as annoying as the music.
Do I sound baffled? That’d be because I am. I just don’t get how, from the thousands upon thousands upon thousands of artists to choose from, and from the varied selections of its 134 “tastemakers,” the BBC has chosen to spotlight a run-of-the-mill electronica artist in its number one spot. Granted, she’s a rather attractive young woman, and uses some interesting music-making techniques, but there’s nothing distinguishing about the music’s sound or her voice.
I did happen across some home-shot footage of Little Boots playing Hot Chip’s “Ready for the Floor” with a device I’ve never seen before called a “tenorion.” (More on that later.) Is this the future of music? I certainly hope not, though I admit the device is pretty freaking cool. I want one. Now.

I’m not really sure I even understand what she is doing.
That INSTRUMENT looks like a sequencer of sorts.
I do love the idea of some new instruments/sounds though! I’m just not sure this is the breakthrough we’ve been waiting for.
Any idea what last years top 5 were?

Ha, yeah, I get the feeling the BBC’s top five list are artists who all the teeny boppers will go crazy over, not necessarily a list of artists with the most talent. Money-making artists who have a face that can sell records and a moderate enough amount of talent. She plays piano and stuff, not that you can tell that by her music.
I guess she’s like the next generation of Britney Spears, only British. I can’t even think of a Brit artist. Any ideas?
