Aestheticized Presents: Animal Collective! In St. Pete!
January 20th, 2009 by Leilani Polk in Concerts, NewsA few weeks ago, I caught wind from Jack at Aestheticized that he was in talks with Animal Collective to bring them back to town, finally. The date has been confirmed for Monday, June 8, at State Theatre; tickets go on sale this Friday, January 23.
Jack first booked AC members Avey Tare and Panda Bear back in the summer of ‘03. They apparently played a “super under-attended” mostly acoustic show at New World Brewery. This year’s show will most assuredly be different based on the lengthy hype that led into the release of the collective’s new album, Merriweather Post Pavilion, and the huge amount of good press that followed. (Pitchfork gave it a 9.6; I haven’t weighed in yet, but I can tell you that it’s damn good. Great, even. I might even fall in love with it after a few more listens.)
Here’s a video of AC performing “My Girls” (a song off MPP) at Coachella 2008. It’s kinda pixelated, but looks pretty good nonetheless, and the sound is decent as well.
Animal Collective also plays the Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale on Tuesday, June 9, and Club Firestone in Orlando on Wednesday, June 10.

Jannus would be a good upgrade. Get your tickets early and get this thing moved. Too bad it’s not at the Ritz (good a/c).

I like the state.
I know it’s not the greatest venue, but the last few times I’ve been there, the sound has been decent, and as far as crowd energy goes, if everything comes together, the room is hard to beat.
I think Animal Collective should be indoors anyway.

Ritz may be a better room; I haven’t decided. It’s girth was distracting at Of Montreal.
