More Animal Collective fluffing…
January 25th, 2009 by btreotch in NewsAs Leilani posted last week, tickets for Animal Collective’s June 8 visit to State Theatre in St. Pete went on sale on Friday. Evidently, the band has already sold 50 of the 700 available tickets; a sell-out looks likely. If the show is a fraction as cool as their “My Girls” video (or in HD here), then we’ll definitely be in for a treat.

Pure awesomeness. Love it. So simple, yet so psychedelic.

I just do not get what the attraction to this band is.
Every time I read how great this album is I wanna scream “Open your eyes muthafucker…that’s the kings dick!”
I’m sorry but Animal Collective sucks and if this is gonna be the hipsters pick for album of the year then 1984 called and it wants is shitty music year crown back.

It’s not the band that’s so great, it’s this album. I understand when people don’t like Animal Collective, even I can’t handle much of their material. Obviously their music puts the listener to test, often making things uncomfortable to the ear balls. But if you are already thinking, “this band sucks and can’t ever make something that moves me,” when you listen to any artist’s album, then it’s all pointless.
Have you listened to Panda Bear’s “Person Pitch” (Hipster fave 2007)? This guy Noah Lennox is truly an amazing song writer and the band is really responding to him on this record.

almost 150 of these tix sold as of today. CRAZY. fasting selling ticket we’ve ever dealt with.
autopsy iv – have you actually listened to MPP? i dunno man… i’ve never really freaked on these dudes before, but i love this new record. as original as anything ive heard in some time.
for me – one of those rare instances where the hype might just need to be believed.

The record is really great — read my review — but I’m not convinced it’s one of the best of the year.

What’s better, or in the same league, so far?

twice. then i deleted it.
What’s better, or in the same league, so far?
I guess this is when we start sludging through personal tastes issues but:
Feb 17: William Elliot Whitmore
March 3: Justin Townes Earle
Both of those eclipse anything that’s come out so far this year.
In my personal opinion the new Franz Ferdinand is better than the AC album.

Autopsy- Have you listened to Animal Collective? I can understand if it’s not your thing, but to claim “it sucks” and pass it off as “hipster” amusement, shows a general lack of understanding on your part.
I’d be curious for you to reveal a little more detail as to why you think it sucks, you know, something tangible.
And, if you were so inclined to scream something after reading the Animal Collective reviews, perhaps it would help to make that something, um, intelligible. What exactly would it mean for the new AC to be “the kings dick”? Would this make AC the king? Does it make the cd their dick? All of this begs the question, who was their father, and how is PRINCE, someone who is older, their successor?
And lastly, if there’s anything reminiscent of 1984 here, it’s your attitude. You sound like some old white guy walking past a ghetto blaster “urrrgh! What is this filth, this nonsense…THE KINGS DICK, I’LL TELL YA!”
Or maybe it sucks, I forget.

All I know is I wanna start a band called The King’s Dick. And we’ll sound exactly like Animal Collective.

fill up: to put it succinctly…I find Merriweather Post Pavilion to be repetitive and boring at it’s best and flat out annoying at it’s worst.
The “kings dick” part was in direct reference to the fairy tale “The Emperor’s New Clothes”…basically I am saying that people are being bamboozled into championing an album that deep down inside they know is horrible. I feel this same phenomena spawned all of death metal.
Don’t take it personal though…I’m not saying you can’t like the album. Just that you shouldn’t.
