Agreed. This sounds like his finished product more. Wish we knew more about his passing and that more was revealed about his life story, so people would finally learn he wasn't the mope he's so often pegged to be. Smith was an upstanding, no-nonsense, hard-working musician.

Agreed that these tracks sound more like something Smith might have mixed himself than what we get on "from a basement."

i recently came across this myself. the word is that these are tracks and mixes that his family didn't want released. the tracks here that are also on "from a basement" are far superior mixes, more true to what smith was working on before he was killed. from what i've heard and read, his family wasn't involved in his life at all, so it's unnerving that they would hold back on releasing this material. these 17 tracks are an amazing reminder of what was taken from the music world. thankfully, someone has leaked these for all to hear. the instrumental tracks are haunting and the last track, a cover of cat stevens "trouble", is pure gold.

as far as my statement about smith being killed, read the official coroner's report for yrself and make up yr own mind. i think he was murdered.
