HBO is planning a series based on Red Hot Chili Pepper’s Anthony Kiedis‘ growing up in West Hollywood.

The series is tentatively titled “Spider and Son” and will focus on Kiedis’ relationship with his father who sold drugs and mingled with rock stars on the Sunset Strip, all while aspiring to get into show business.

This will probably be half “Entourage“, half “Kids“.

Here’s the info from WeHo.com:

HBO announced that Independent writer/director John Sayles will write a series treatment of Red Hot Chili Pepper’s singer Anthony Kiedis’ autobiography about his West Hollywood youth, “Scar Tissue.”

Set in 1970s West Hollywood, the book and series will focus on Mr. Keidis’ relationship with his drug-dealer to rock bands dad, known as Spider.

Mr. Keidis met future Chili Peppers Michael Balzary (Flea), Hillel Slovak and Jack Irons while a student at Fairfax High School and, with them, hung around the rock clubs on the Sunset Strip.

The backdrop of the book is his relationship with his drug-dealer dad, who was also a drug addict, as well as with his father’s friends – all of whom used drugs.

The series is tentatively scheduled to begin airing in late 2010.
