Here’s a video 1-2 punch that’s tough to beat.

Tuesday night, Wilco appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman, with special guest vocalist Feist, to perform “You And I.”

The next day, 66-year-old ex-Beatle Paul McCartney and his band played a 22-minute concert on the roof of the marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theater. They flew through “Coming Up,” “Band on the Run,” “Let Me Roll It,” “Helter Skelter,” and “Back in the USSR,” and sounded tight as f!@#, in this author’s opinion.

I actually remember seeing this commercial on the air as a six-year-old boy in 1984. It sparked my desire and my need to own one of those red jackets. Also appearing in the commercial is Alfonso Ribeiro, Carlton Banks from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

If “Michael Jackson” and “Pepsi ad” sound like something you’ve heard in the same sentence before, you’re probably recalling how in the same year, while recording a Pepsi commercial on stage in Los Angeles, Jackson was apparently seriously burned by malfunctioning equipment, which may or may not have led to some of his later plastic surgeries.

For what we assume will be a very limited time, Pitchfork is streaming the entire epic Guided By Voices documentary Watch Me Jumpstart on its site, for free.

The 1998 film tells the story of the unlikeliest of rock stars (featuring Dayton, Ohio born Robert Polllard, an ex-4th-grade teacher) who never actually became rockstars to the general public but still managed to spawn a new sub-genre of DIY music-making, from recording albums on cassettes to printing T-shirts and album covers in their garage.

The new single from the well-reviews new Sonic Youth album, The Eternal, is Sacred Trickster, sung by Kim Gordon.

Phil Spector was photographed by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in June 2009 after his arrest on murder charges (Spector was sentenced to 19 years in prison following his conviction for murdering actress Lana Clarkson, whom he shot to death in his Los Angeles home in February 2003) . And it turns out that crazy hairdo he sported in court (seen here) was not actually his real hair. Why would a man wear such a strange looking wig? Maybe because without it, he resembles Gollum from the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Last night, rumors about a new Pixies album hit the web after this image appeared on ainr.com (Artist In Residence):

Well, it turns out Minotaur will not be a new Pixies studio album, but a box set of all their studio albums, with revamped artwork and extras. The set will be available in both Limited Edition and Deluxe Edition forms and will include the band’s four albums and the Come On Pilgrim EP. Vaughan Oliver and Simon Larbalestier, the photographers who shot the covers for those albums, will be in charge of the repackaging.

Artist in Residence founder Jeff Anderson told Rolling Stone that the albums won’t be remastered because he didn’t want to touch the original masters. The set won’t include any live tracks, and the folks in charge are still figuring out what to do about bonus tracks. But there will be bonus artwork.  The Deluxe Edition, which will go for $175, will include the albums on 24k layered CDs. It’ll also include a Blu-Ray DVD featuring a 1991 Brixton Academy show and all the band’s videos, along with additional artwork and a 54-page book. The whole package will come with a slipcase.

Want further proof being a Pixies fan now makes you old and apparently flush with nostalgia and expendable income? There’s a $450 Limited Edition version, which comes in a custom clamshell. It will feature all the albums on 180-gram vinyl, along with a Giclée print of Oliver’s artwork and a 72-page hardcover book.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs were the musical guests on Saturday Night Live this weekend. They played Zero, the single from their new album It’s Blitz! (reviewed here) and, rather strangely, an older song, Maps. Old but good at least. here’s Zero:

It was a long time coming for session number six, but well worth it, as Clearwater-based hard rockers Soulfound join Joran and Stephen in the studio to talk about playing locally and nationally, recording and playing together for a decade and their decision to go on hiatus.
