The Thermals rock The Bell House in New York

The Thermals

I flew into La Guardia on Saturday January 31st at about 2pm. The temperature was in the mid to upper 20s and slowly dropping. The Thermals were playing a late show at The Bell House in Brooklyn. How cold was it going to be when the show started at 11pm? I didn’t care. I was in New York and was going to catch The Thermals play a one-off show before jumping the pond to the U.K. for a small tour. Read the rest of this entry »

New Oasis short documentary debuts on MySpace Music

This just in from Oasis’ publicists:

MySpace Music, the world’s most popular music community, is proud to announce the premiere of the new documentary from Oasis titled Dig Out Your Soul in the Streets. This insightful short film marks the first HD debut in the history of MySpace Music. The documentary was shot by The Malloys, who have directed numerous music videos for The White Stripes and are currently filming the new Zach Braff feature film 8 Track.

In the weeks leading up to the release of Dig Out Your Soul, the latest album from Oasis, the band traveled to New York City where they taught street musicians to play a number of their new songs, thus subtly leaking the album before its release. The Malloys followed Oasis and the street musicians throughout the process and created the 18-minute black-and-white documentary that is playing exclusively on MySpace Music.

The selected street musicians, came from all parts of New York City, and have a variety of different ethnic, musical and creative backgrounds. They performed Oasis’s new songs at locations throughout the city, including MTA approved subway station platforms in Grand Central, Times Square, Penn Station and Astor Place.

The joy of Tally Hall

I woke from a night of Irish whiskey drinking to a throat that was pained to swallow. My dear friend, Toby, sent me along my way with two packets of Emergen-C to drink with in my day. He also asked me “Do you want a banana?” I knew it was going to be a good day. Friends that care about and influence your well being are beneficial to have around. Friends that unintentionally push your play button and endure your raspy, slightly hung-over, under the weathered version of the whimsical Tally Hall song “Banana Man“- I would say you should try to keep them around as long as they’ll stand you.

Tally Hall (pictured above) is responsible for a bulk of my amusement. Whether I am serenading the empty pub in the morning when I sing along to their album, Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum (MMMM) as I open, or I’m locked into the latest episode of the Tally Hall Internet Show (THIS), I’m always entertained. When Twitter notifies me the band has posted a new blog, you better believe I jet right over to check it. The peeks into their personalities that they provide are playful and clever. They are that gelastic in person too. Read the rest of this entry »
