How long is it appropriate to keep a Christmas tree up?

Well, my tree isn’t starting to look quite as brown as the one to the left (in fact it’s still quite verdant), but seeing as how a week from today is February 1 already, I’m wondering if it’s time to take down the ol’ Christmas tree. I don’t want to. I love the smell. I love the soft glow of the lights. I love how my dog sticks her head between the branches and sniffs the ornaments, thinking they’re her toys. But Christmas was a month ago today. So I’d like a little advice: Do I ride this thing out until it becomes a fire hazard, even if it is some kind of bionic tree that lasts well into August, or do I cut ties now, when I’m not as attached as I will be come summertime?

Turn it into a Valentine’s Tree, silly !!! This is the true Christmas baby talking. I recognized this phenom in you as I read this post. (also I was born in a place called dearborn hehe)
Honest, take off anything that’s not red or white, you might have to adjust the lights but next year you’ll be ready with more red and white lights. Hang some pretty lacy things and puffy hearts and add some more white, red pink and you can go til like FEBRUARY 21st or more. I thought one year I might even go St Patrick’s (no kidding) and then what the heck, on to Easter, eh? Fourth of July would be the obvious next and then why take down all those flags with labor day trees on the way?? Now, even I have to admit that a halloween tree would be a bit of a reach but with some imagination … perhaps. THEN, heck … put a sheet over it’s decidedly by then brownish sticks and it’s time for Christmas again.
People (dang them) ruined this plan for me when they got vocal over the valentine’s day thing and it was LOVELY (they were jealous) and actually had the chops to accuse me of being LAZY.
Sure and if that felon martha had done it ……
Anyway, this post got me and it’s late and I’m punchy and this is every word the TRUTH. GO get yourself some puffy hearts and lacy things to decorate it with. Segue to another day….

Interesting concept… Can this tree also become a makeshift anniversary present for my wife come May? Maybe it could even cover her July birthday?
