Atkins, Kirschner win; Commissioner Runoff holds the District Two seat for now

Gotta be feeling good about my powers of prognostication for the NCAAs after tonight’s results in the City Commission races. As was expected, Mayor Fredd “Glossie” Atkins took the D1 seat. But he had reason to sweat, edging April Sheffield by a margin of 658 to 432. Pretty solid showing for a challenger with next-to-nothing in the bank.
Mary Anne Servian will face a runoff for the D2 chair, but not against Denise Kowal. She’s up against Dick Clapp — and if today’s vote was any indication, she’s got a fight. Clapp Your Hands Say Yeah lead the field of four with 1,596 votes — over 200 more than incumbent Servian picked up.
In another surprising tally, Kelly the Kid took the D3 seat from Danny Bilyeu convincingly, beating the incumbent two to one. This afternoon the HT reported the race was tight — apparently there’s less support for development in the neighborhoods outside of downtown than they thought.
Commissioner Kirschner is a good thing for the city. He’ll make mistakes, sure. But he’ll make some noise, too.

I had a great time on Election night , stopped by each Victory Party for each candidate except I could not find Maryann Servian anywhere.
The best party was Kelly Kirschner’s at Mickey’s , what fun high energy and excitment.
Two days after election night I see Servian’s plea for more money and asking for $20,000 to launch her run-off campagin bla bla bla. Well no wonder because she spent $2000. the last of her campaign funds on a fancy private dinner at the Bijou Cafe on election night. Gee! Did any neighborhood activists got to eat that $200. a plate meal paid for with her campaign contributions?
Well…….maybe her run off party will be at the Ritz Carlton.
