A visit from the Spam Fried Rice Fairy
May 16th, 2007 by max linsky in Food and Drink, Our Hero
This, ladies and gentleman, is the illustrious Jaden, of our favorite food blog, Jaden’s Steamy Kitchen. We don’t know much about food — though we’re pretty handy with a bowl of krispies and some milk — but Jayden brings a little humor to the food blogging game, and we appreciate that.
After we gave her a shoutout in Tuesday’s Links for her Spam Fried Rice — you gotta check the poem; it’s genius — Jaden offered to cook us up a batch. Sure, we thought. You’re gonna say something on the internets and actually follow through. Come on by, we told her. We’d never eaten Spam before — our brother conviced us at an impressionable age that it was 100 percet rat testicle — but we didn’t tell her that. Because we didn’t think she was coming.
We underestimated the SFRA. Our foodie hero knocked on the door nigh two hours ago with a piping hot plate of the stuff. We huddled in the conference room: Cooper calm, others considering exit strategies.
Slowly, we brought the Spam to our lips. This was big, a moment we’d always remember. Historical! As Joel would say. The verdict?

We’re not sure what that face means, to be honest. We’ve never seen it before. But then again, we’d never eaten Spam before, so perhaps its an original. We like to think it says, “Holy crap, that Spam was so good it made our tie go all wonky,” but we can’t be sure.
Either way, the Spam Fried Rice was Spam fried tasty, even after Jayden described it as “meat in its own coffin.” We got leftovers for the next week, and we’re eagerly awaiting our next visit…
Should be Spampendous.
