WWBAC? (What Would Bruce Asbury Cover?)

Bruce Asbury. The name conjures up so much. SNN reporter and substitute weatherman. Amateur insult comedian. Fan club president. “Ambassador to Buffalo”. Amazon list-maker. In honor of the man who lights up SNN like Venus appearing in the night sky, I hereby introduce a weekly 941 feature, in which you and I will decide exactly what stories Asbury should pursue with his trademark self-deprecation and campy visuals.
To inaugurate things, let’s imagine Asbury tackling the controversial love bug phenomenon plaguing the Suncoast:
[Asbury stands in the middle of a swarm of love bugs, throwing futile swats at the critters.]
A. [his voice full of excitement]: Love bugs? If you’re like most people, probably not. So how did these annoying little guys [swat, swat]Â get their name?
[Cut to A. interviewing a woman standing next to her car in a parking lot just off Main Street.]
A.: So… do you love bugs?
Woman: [Nervous, Oh-my-God-I'm-actually-on-SNN! giggle] Uh, no…?
A.: Why not?
W.: I just don’t.
[Pull back to A., SNN mic in hand.]
A.: There you have it, folks. Sarasotans just do not love these things. But for the next couple weeks, at least, we’ll just have to tolerate them. Heavily doused with bug spray, this is Bruce Asbury, signing off.
