See & Do: Saturday Morning Farmer’s Market

June 15th, 2007 by christin_webtern in See & Do

On Saturday morning, I actually got my ass out of bed before 10 o’clock. Well, to be honest, my batting kitty got my ass out of bed. But since I was up, I thought I’d make the best of the hour and head to the farmer’s market downtown. With a premonition that I may want to buy something, I made Dad come along …

The first place to hit was Pastry Art on Main for a dose of my favorite dirty chai. Then it was hunting time for the perfect thing for Daddy to buy me. Turning the corner from the coffee shop I ran right into Miss Bloody Mary, whose flirtatious charm convinced me to sample some of their tempting red mixture. It was bloody good, and Miss Mary was a spicy girl … but I kept on.

My nose led me to the sweet scents of Sarasota Candle company, where I could have bought the whole store, but within moments I was swarmed with love bugs and had to get out.

Luckily, I spotted some cool looking photos at the next table. That’s where I met Sean, a young guy who’s head of his own company, Looney Photography. I was amazed: so young and already transforming his passion into business. Not only did he have unique images from Suncoast beaches, but he had photos from his travels to Italy.

The search continued, until a group of exotic Bromeliads came into vision and I knew I had to have one. Dad conceded and Jason, the plant species expert, helped us select a unique striped one to take home. He’s even got a website

Maybe this weekend I’ll go back for Father’s Day, but this time I’m buying.

The Farmer’s Market is downtown on Lemon St., and closes up around noon.
