Brooks Brothers Review: Plaid To Meet You

November 6th, 2007 by max linsky in Current Affairs, Elsewhat, News, Travel

Wait, did we say that we love Election Day? We miswrote, forgive us. We love Election Day assuming it’s not … Brooks Brothers Opening Day! Double woo!

Yes, that yellow building on the corner of Main and Lemon has finally been occupied, kicking off a string of upper-crust retail opening in the next few weeks at Pineapple Square. Boy, if that isn’t an itch that needed scratching, we’re not sure what is.

Knowing you just couldn’t wait till five to get a peak at the digs, we dispatched our newest correspondent, The Uninformed Fashionista, to file a review.
TUF’s report is after the jump:

The Gist
Finally, a Sarasota store catering to high-end customers! The new Brooks Brothers — sorry, Brooks Brothers Country Club — sells golf balls and madras, tweed and $50 plaid umbrellas. Grandpa heaven.

The Best
The interior is actually quite gorgeous. Clean lines, hardwood floors, that intoxicating new-store smell — the place was dripping with the scent of freshly pressed khakis. I’m going to bottle that and sell it back to … well, Brooks Brothers is probably the only place that would buy Eau de Khaki.

The Worst
Perhaps not surprisingly, the music left something to be desired. Like a pulse.

The Most Expensive Item
Best I could tell, this $498 suede — at least I think it was suede — vest topped the list. Where I come from, if you’re going to drop half a grand on a piece of clothing, the thing should at least have sleeves. Then again, I’ve never owned a horse. The vest is for the equestrians among us, right?

The Least Expensive Item
$18 socks. Christ.

  1. Joe Bardi Says:

Can I just get one sock? Or can I buy both socks, but put one on layaway?

Also, I’ll take 200 cans of Eau de Khaki. I was going to say “200 bottles,” but it’s got to come in a can, right?
