Cheap Mexican gas
June 10th, 2008 by Jonathan Maziarz in Editor's Desk, News, PoliticsNo we are not talking about the after-effects of the Taco Bell Value Menu, either. Residents of border states have begun to discover that gasoline is more than a dollar cheaper per gallon south of the border.
Things are likely never to be this cheap again, though. Remember those days….
• But since gas prices appear to be going up and up, there is some good news from Colorado, where scientists have modified a Toyota Prius to get more than 100 mpg.
• No surprise here: Senate Republicans blocked a bill to put a windfall tax on oil companies and to take away billions of dollars of industry tax cuts. Good luck defending those votes this fall….
• And speaking of evil Republicans (yes, I know that’s redundant), Dick Cheney is again marshalling the forces of darkness and pressing for an attack on Iran. Doesn’t he realize that would likely triple the price of oil? Maybe that’s the point….
• As president Bush’s approval ratings continue to slide well south of Nixon country, fellow Republicans are treating the president like the proverbial pube in the punchbowl. Don’t be fooled; all these people loved GWB quite recently and are now just running for their sorry political lives. Here’s the proof.
• Got a teenager? Good luck getting him or her out of the house this summer. There are few jobs for the taking.
• And finally, and disturbingly, it appears that Muslim women in Europe are paying to have their virginity surgically restored.
