Haven’t seen The Machinist yet. I remember reading about it when it first came out, and I guess I was afraid to see what he did to his body for the role.

Yes, Bale is indeed the man, from the first time I saw him in Empire of the Sun. Didn’t see Newsies, natch.

I have… I believe Bale does that in all of his movies, according to the accent used – I recall him saying something to the effect of doing so, so as not to jar audiences.
That, and because he’s the motherflippin’ MAN. (Okay, I admit my Baleheadness took over there. I don’t think he was the best part of the film – obviously. But have you seen the Machinist? Like whoa.)

Bryan Singer. Ang Lee. Christopher Nolan. Now another top-shelf director in Darren Aronofsky directing a comic-book movie. Can Sam Mendes be far behind?

The Bale clip is brilliant. But have you noticed, Amanda, that in interviews regarding The Dark Knight, Bale keeps his American accent?
