Nancy’s BBQ finds a home

It looks like Nancy’s BBQ — repeatedly lauded by me in the pages of CL — will be moving into permanent digs at the site of the old Kay’s Barbecue in the Rosemary District within the next two months. After selling her ‘cue through catering for a few years, Nancy Krohngold opened up a regular lunch stand off of 12th Street last year, until she was shut down by the state for not having the necessary infrastructure. For the past year, she’s mulled over either buying a barbecue trailer that meets regs, or settling in a storefront.
Then she called up Wes Roberts — publisher of SRQ Magazine and owner of the Kay’s property. He had planned on using the land to build an HQ for SRQ, until the economic downturn hit and he decided to buy the magazine’s current offices. He jumped on the idea of putting Nancy in the long-empty space.
Krohngold is excited to get back into the full-time barbecue business. “I love the Rosemary district,” she said, “and a lot of people remember Kay’s was there.” She hasn’t signed a lease yet, but it looks like a done deal. The building needs some work, which will hopefully be finished around the first of the year. Once it passes inspection, Krohngold plans on serving lunch and early dinner, to take care of folks looking for a meal on their way home from work.
In the meantime, you can sample some of here fantastic pulled pork this Thursday night at Rosemary Rising. You can also call Nancy at 955-3400.
