How to save 75 cents this week: Celebrate SCAT’s 30th birthday!

April 7th, 2009 by Cooper Levey-Baker in Editor's Desk, News, Politics, Sarasota-Manatee

That’s right! The Sarasota County Area Transit system is celebrating three decades of service this Thursday, April 9.

To commemorate this momentous occasion, the county is giving away free fixed-route rides all day, and is hosting a drawing: The first-place contestant gets 12 monthly bus passes, second-place receives six monthly passes and third-place earns a one-month pass. Download this .pdf form, tear off the right-hand ticket and mail it in. (Address is on the form.)

Even if you don’t win the contest or take advantage of the free cruising, be sure to take a moment this Thursday to doff your cap in commemoration of SCAT’s 30 years, 30 years full of lackluster budgets, uncooperative route schedules, narrow hours of operations and inconsistent service. Happy birthday, SCAT!

The deadline for the bus pass drawing was 3 days ago. Thanks anyway.

    Bah! Sorry for the misinformation.
