Neighborhood Eats: Downtown Bradenton Restaurants

April 30th, 2009 by Brian Ries in Food and Drink

Yeah, we don’t make it into B-Town proper as much as we should, either. But if you’re planning a trip to Bradenton’s administrative center we have a few choices that might making your dining decisions easier. From down-home comfort food to dive-bar burgers, or from craft brews to chic martinis, we’ve got you covered. (Let us know if we missed any of your favorites.)

B TOWNE COFFEE COMPANY 440 Old Main St., Bradenton, 745-3100
The usual snacks and coffee drinks in a comfy setting right in the heart of Old Main.

BELLA COFFEE HOUSE
417 12th St. W., Bradenton, 747-1687
Cozy coffee house with damn fine brews and the usual pastries.

BONNI BAKES EDIBLE ART 930 12th St. West, Bradenton, 746-6647
You might dismiss this quaint Village of the Arts spot as another artsy coffee shop, but Bonni Bakes has instituted a daily guest chef series, which means the menu changes every day, from Old Florida, to Ethiopian, New York to Greece.

Many more after the break:

CARIBBEAN SOUL 624 Ninth Ave. W., Bradenton, 748-5450
Soul food with a Carribbean touch, as the name implies, serving hearty cafeteria-style lunch and early dinner.

COUNCIL’S BRADENTON RECREATION
536 12th St. W., Bradenton, 746-8350
This down and dirty downtown bar has draft beeer, pool tables, TVs, and one of the most highly regarded diner-style burgers in B-Town.

FAV’S ITALIAN CUCINA 419 12th St. W., Bradenton, 708-3287
Casual, affordable Italian fare ranging from pizza and stromboli to sandwiches and pasta.

FERRAROS PIZZA 817 14th St. W., Bradenton, 747-9900
Big, floppy slices of NY-style pie, along with all the salads, subs, calzones and pastas that go along with a family Italian joint.

FISHERMAN JOE’S 436 12th St. W., Bradenton, 746-3077
This Old Main restaurant serves a fish shack menu — there’re clam strips! — fortified by deep-fried bar food extras.

LOST KANGAROO PUB 427 12th St. W., Bradenton, 747-8114
The casual, down-to-earth Lost Kangaroo seems is a bar that attracts local regulars, but also happens to have the best beer selection in Manatee. There are 26 beers on tap, along with a whole lot of bottles. No food, but full liquor if you don’t want beer.

MATTISON’S RIVERSIDE 1200 First Ave., Bradenton, 748-8087
This northernmost outpost of the Mattison’s restaurant conglomerate has a menu a lot like the others, albeit with more seafood, a better view and extensive sushi options.

ORTYGIA RISTORANTE 1418 13th Street W., Bradenton, 741-8646
In Bradenton’s Village of the Arts just out of downtown, Ortygia serves homestyle cuisine from owner Gaetano Cannata’s ancestral Sicily in a converted bungalow. You’ll get to know the Ortygia’s familial crew as you nosh on rustic stuffed peppers and homemade mushroom pate.

ROBIN’S DOWNTOWN 428 12th St. W., Bradenton, 747-8899
Breakfast and brunch joint with the usual favorites, including homemade corned beef hash.

Typical American fare at a homey restaurant.

Whoever is phoning in downtown Bradenton restaurant info probably hasn’t been downtown in a while.
Zio’s pizzeria on 14th St. has been empty and closed for months, yet you guys always mention it when talking about B’ton. Maybe it’s time you got Zio’s off your list!
